Following the full recovery after the cyberattack to @internetarchive on October 2024 and the current increasing attacks to #DigitalPreservation and #KnowledgeFreedom, worst-case scenarios unfortunately are no longer unthinkable. While planning, maybe they should be considered as entirely possible instead.

AI won’t save PDF from itself. PDFs are largely inaccessible, proprietary, and a nightmare for data extraction (ever tried copy-pasting a two-column doc?). Mistral’s new tool still struggles to convert them cleanly; imagine misreading a PDF drug chart and prescribing a 500mg overdose instead of 50mg. Time Tracking Analysis for Digital Records Processing: "While we still have no clear way to predict how long individual accessions will take to ingest and process, collecting this data has been valuable. A question for #digipres folks: Is there any reasonable way to retrieve any part of an archive.org item if the uploader has chosen to remove it (possibly many years ago)? I'm aware many items have torrents but I'm not sure where to find them if the IA entry is no longer visible, and I'd be doubtful anyone would still be seeding anyway.
I'm aware this is a long shot, just trying to find some things of personal significance...
