Harsono met his future wife in 2022 while studying for his MBA, & they married the next year. They now have an 8-month-old daughter, Adalet, who recently learned how to say “da da” during calls with her jailed father.

“I just wanna kiss my wife on her forehead, & hold my daughter as tight as I can,” Harsono said Wednesday night. “I wanna be there for my daughter.”

Harsono said he protested because growing up, he had been inspired by the American ideal of #FreedomOfSpeech.

“I was scared to voice my opinion back in #Indonesia,” he said. “Now, you know, I’m in #America, I could do that now.”

…After his arrest at the 2021 #protest, which occurred shortly before his #student #visa expired, he went back to Indonesia. He said he was “surprised” when his application to return to study for a graduate degree was accepted.

On April 16, 2021, Harsono joined about 1k people demonstrating over #GeorgeFloyd’s murder by Minneapolis #police & the recent death of #DaunteWright by police in Brooklyn Center.

He was arrested for unlawful #assembly after the #protest, though the charge was dismissed. His wife & attorney said agents & lawyers cited Harsono’s protest history during detention proceedings.

“The MNA Board of Directors reaffirms their position that nurses should not & will not serve any role in immigration enforcement,” the association said in a statement.

The group said its directors hope all hospital employees reject assisting #ICE.

Harsono spoke from the Kandiyohi County jail, where he’s been held since his arrest by #ICE agents.

…#Immigration lawyers & a #medical #labor #union have sharply criticized the manner of Harsono’s arrest at a hospital.

The Minnesota Nurses Association condemned the arrest, which it said occurred at an Avera hospital.

Federal officials planned to “immediately pursue removal” for Harsono, & the #State Dept agreed not to tell him about his #visa revocation, the memo read.

“Due to ongoing #ICE operational security, this revocation will therefore be silent,” the memo read. [ridiculous]

Harsono said he believes his past participation in #SocialJustice #protests after #GeorgeFloyd’s murder in 2020 may also have been a factor.

“Across our history, there have been dark chapters where state #power has been #weaponized & #dissent suppressed, including the crackdown during & after WWI, the #RedScare of the 1950s, & President Richard #Nixon’s ‘enemies list.’ These episodes are now seen as shameful deviations from the fundamental American principles of #FreeExpression & impartial #justice. The April 9 presidential memoranda are an appalling rejection of those bedrock democratic values.“

Last week, #Trump signed a *memo* [directing the DOJ – which BTWs isn’t legal for him to do]…to investigate #ChrisKrebs, & suspend any #active security clearances held by Krebs & SentinelOne, the prominent #cybersecurity firm where he worked. Trump instructed the #DOJ & the #DHS to submit a report w/“recommendations for appropriate remedial or preventative actions.”

#ChrisKrebs, who ran #CISA & was responsible for securing the #2020election, drew #Trump’s ire after publicly contradicting Trump when Krebs stated the #election WASN’T STOLEN [Trump literally called that election “rigged” again today during an Oval Office presser]. Krebs was fired by tweet in Nov 2020 after calling the election the most secure in history.

Last month, #JDVance said #Denmark had "not done a good job" for #Greenland & had not spent enough on security while visiting the Danish territory.

The alleged email, released by a #military news site, told staff Vance's comments were "not reflective" of the base. A #Pentagon spox cited the article, saying "undermining" US leadership was not tolerated.

DA Rosen said that #Trump’s intense focus on #Stanford & other #universities played no role in the decision to charge the #crimes as #felonies.

“What the federal administration is doing is what they’re doing. What I’m doing is applying the California Penal Code,” Rosen said.

They face up to 3 years & 8 months in prison, as well as the payment of restitution to reimburse the #university for the damage.

#Stanford is one of dozens of schools being investigated by the #Trump admin for how they have handled pro-#Palestinian protests & whether they have done enough to combat antisemitism on campus. The admin has also revoked the #visas of several Stanford #students & recent graduates, though the reason is unclear.

The charges were among the most severe levied against participants in last year’s pro-#Palestinian #demonstrations on #college campuses. >3k people were arrested at college #protests & encampments in spring 2024, but they generally faced misdemeanor charges or saw their charges dropped.

Jeff Rosen, the DA for Santa Clara County, which includes the #Stanford campus, charged 12 protesters w/ #felony #vandalism & felony #conspiracy to #trespass.
