In this week's issue we featured and article about #driverless tech being applied to buses instead of cars. Who knows when the public would feel safe with this, but it seems better than clogging up our street with selfdriving cars. #urbanism+

Would you be willing to ride in an autonomous bus?

This about sums up 2025!

Man trapped inside driverless car as it spins in circles

"Mike Johns boarded a #driverless #Waymo taxi to an airport in Scottsdale, Arizona, but it began spinning in circles in a parking lot.

"He filmed the moment he was trapped in the vehicle, unable to stop the car or get help."

The Guardian · Why are self-driving cars exempt from traffic tickets in San Francisco?By Kari Paul

‘Alain Kornhauser, an engineering professor at Princeton, told me that the car has been so successful because it is a “DIY, Home Depot solution” to transportation—you pay upfront, and then you can drive yourself anywhere. But what about those who can’t afford a car? Or are too young to drive? Or have a disability? “What about those folks? Don’t they deserve mobility too?” he said.’ theatlantic.com/technology/arc #driverless #SanFrancisco #disabilities

So one week in & already the number of #driverless taxis in #SanFranciso has been halved after a taxi collided with an emergency vehicle & the taxi passenger had to be taken to hospital.

The (temporary) reduction will last until an investigation determines how the crash happened & the City has had some reassurance about safety measures.

Optimists will say look at the early history of the railways... this is just a blip;

Pessimists will be leaning back to say 'told you so'.
