Hey you!
Yes you. Have you checked the batteries in the thing you haven't used for a while? No? Do it now, or as soon as possible.

This toot brought to you by a bunch of leaking Duracell and Poundshop Kodak batteries in some kit I was going to take to work today.

First finished (??!) print!! Paper made from linen and ryegrass with some sphagnum inclusions. Cyanotype print is made from historical pamphlets, maps and images concerning postwar Irish agriculture. The print was then toned by soaking in water from a bog in Lixnaw in North Kerry. Finally, a clover is embroidered along the line of a gas pipeline map on the print with conductive thread, allowing the print to be a touch sensor for electronics. #papermaking #cyanotype #electronics #EnvHist

Making a DIY #Eurorack case from 3M screw rails, MFOS bipolar power supply, and scrap wood I found in this house I moved into last year. This is mainly a project for getting more practise using power tools. I lived in small rental accommodation nearly all my life so had little reason to own any until now.

Which way should I orient it? Power entering from lower right or from the upper left?

Dear fediverse,

what is the best resource of do's and dont's for setting up a #repaircafe ?

I guess not what I do with my own repairs : 40 boxes with half broken stuff from other people, waiting to find that single crucial part, schematic, or plans to fix it with a 3d printed part (to be designed and printed), actually converting my place in a #dumpsterdive without divers.

Neither desoldering all weird parts because weird parts are difficult to get...

Question to all the #ee or #electronics experts here: I have two TI chips here. the one in the background is from 1985 and has shiny legs. The one in the foreground I bought in the last 5 years new from Mouser. It came with those tarnished legs already from the factory. Why are the legs so tarnished? What coating does TI use that makes it so black looking. I understand that back in the 70s supposedly TI used a silver coating that turned black over the decades, but this is something different...?

People doing #Electronics here, I am still searching for a substitute for the LCMXO256C #CPLD. Up to 2019, you could buy these below 2€ a piece on Digikey. They have 256 cells and 78 IO pins, making them quite interesting for that price range. During the pandemic their price raised wildly and now they are 10€ a piece, so I have been searching for a cheaper alternative without success. Any recommendations?

#Electronics repair Fedi, anyone got any suggestions for troubleshooting this kind of pushbutton? The device is a first-gen Kindle Touch and it has become unresponsive to both of the two wake-up buttons (front and bottom) It still takes a charge and will talk to a computer over USB so I think it's not a software or main board failure.

Both buttons are on the same daughter circuit board (pictured) and I can feel them both go click when pushed. I can't get at where the daughter board connects up without taking the device farther apart.
