1. **Arabic Script**: The #Arabic script is an abjad that is used by hundreds of millions of people across the world. It is used not only for Arabic but also for other languages such as #Persian (#Farsi), #Urdu, #Pashto, and #Kurdish, among others. Modern adaptations of the script include diacritical marks that can specify vowels when necessary, such as in the #Qur'an or in texts for language learners.

I've got a weird #TeXLaTeΧ question and I'm curious if #AskFedi can help: I want to typeset #Persian text, but when I try to load #farsi with #babel, I get an "There is no ini file for the requested language" message. The babel GitHub repo has babel-fa.ini, and it's in texlive-latex-base, but I can't find a way to install it into my minimal system with tlmgr, since CTAN has no babel-farsi or babel-persian package. Any ideas?

Offen, freundlich, super interessant.

And note that I'm comparing this to #Chinese, which is a language infamous for being "difficult". (It really isn't, but people get scared by the orthography and shut off their brains.)

The #Persian (#Farsi) solution to the gendered pronoun problem is even more elegant than the Chinese one: don't change anything.

Persian, after all, has one third-person singular pronoun (او/u) and one third-person plural pronoun (آنها/ānhā—sometimes used as a formal third-person singular in courtesy.

I'm extremely curious & extremely easily distracted.

I dropped out of a #PhD on the #evolution of #lung #pathogens somewhere in the late 2010s (it's ambiguous exactly when)

I'm an #English speaker trying to learn an unfeasible number of #Languages including #Russian #Hindi #Farsi #Arabic #German and too many others to make any progress on, but I'm having fun trying.

I joined on a very small server @irtapil@sauropods.win and then found space on here, currently I plan to keep both profiles.
