🇬🇧 I know this is one hell of a late #VGMWednesday post, but since today is Genealogy of the Holy War's anniversary, I thought a tribute to the music from my favorite #FireEmblem would only be appropriate.
I've decided on the Chapter 7 theme from the Arranged #Soundtrack - it's one of my faves from the album, in no small part because it's so atmospheric. It literally screams "desert" in your face! 😄💖

🇬🇧 Since April 20th was not only the 35th anniversary of the #FireEmblem series, but also the 20th anniversary of FE: Path of Radiance, I found myself thinking back to this wonderful game again. In honor of this occasion, let me share an absolute gem from PoR's #soundtrack for #VGMWednesday: Life Returns!
Also known as the Galdr of Rebirth, it plays during the credits as well - and you can just picture the herons singing this ethereal, hauntingly beautiful song! 😊

One thing Engage does very well is bosses.

Heretofore, bosses have almost always been normal enemies with stats and equipment that are a little better. Engage gives them all multiple health bars and Emblem abilities, which get more numerous and powerful as you wear them down; some also have directed area-of-effect attacks. This all means that the bosses actually present a challenge and require tactice and coördination to defeat.

After 4 hours of playing Fire Emblem: Engage, I lost all motivation to play it more. It's not bad but aggressively meh. The missions are good and character designs are fun enough, but the story has zero momentum. I was like: Why should I play this further? Only because I consider Fire Emblem one of my main franchises? I say no to that.

I might return to it at a later time.

So I started Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana. The Ys franchise is something I always wanted to give a shot and my initial impressions are pretty positive. Rocking soundtrack, fun combat and enjoyable character designs. Also my first Nihon Falcom game.

So, it got pretty brutal towards the end, but I managed to complete #FireEmblem Shadow Dragon on merciless difficulty. It is most definitely lacking in mercy during the last few stages.

The game gets heavy on the casters, and most characters have no resistance growth. So that's fun when they can throw down a long-range Nuke of 25 damage, and you'd be lucky to hit the max HP of 60 HP on any character during a run.

Shadow Dragon is not a terrible game. it's a remake of an NES game, and it does its best to stay true to its roots. Adding some minor adjustments and giving some of the characters a light coating of fleshing out. Though it really is just the major players, don't expect some of your chaff to have any personality.

Mastery is going to take some time here, as I need to get all characters levelled up to a certain point and do all the nonsense gaiden stages. At least I can play it on normal difficulty going forward.

Second we have Quinn Bouabsa-Marriott on "History is Written by the House Leader: Perspectivism in Fire Emblem: Three Houses".

In this paper the author looks at the houses' status as unreliable narrators and what this means for the player's historiographical experience of the game. You can read the paper here: middleagesinmoderngames.net/ma

Second #Introduction post since I lost the first one in the bottom of the timeline.

Hi, I’m Tachibana Marine(obviously not my real name), a #SoftwareEngineer living in #Japan.

I love #Gaming (#EtrianOdyssey, #SSBU, #FireEmblem), #Baking, #Cooking, #Painting (#Watercolor) and many other things.

English is not my first language but I suck at Japanese(which is my native tongue) too so keep that in mind.

Say hi to my roommate #cockatiel as well, if you wish!

Well, it's back to leaving home in the early morning hours to teach for me tomorrow. Winter term is starting up, right alongside a round of winter storm warnings. I guess I'll try to channel my inner Rhajat (glad I finished Fates over the break, so I could gain her crucial insights). #FireEmblem
