Chao-c'<p>This is not exactly new, but still, each time I think about downwind carts, by heads explodes again. It is not perpetual motion machine, but it looks like one! It just shows, that our intuitive understating how closed systems can extract energy from environment is oversimplified.</p><p>When thinking about how it is possible, it is probably somehow related to the fact, that ice skate sails can travel much faster, than conventional sail ships (sail foils can do better, but not as good as ice sails). And this can be combined with the fact, that cruising sail ship can actually outrun boat sailing just straight downwind. Chao-c'<p>I must admit, that I like fringe physics (I mean: not full-on crackpot, but also not exactly mainstream science theories, or at least theories not so common in pop culture and mainstream media). I mean... at least hard science fiction fans should at least monitor fringe theories. GoinFawr<p>Went and saw "Lousy Parents" at the Edmonton Fringe festival tonight.</p><p>It's set in a private daycare with three sets of parents whose kids have all contracted lice, and the owner of the business is meeting with them to tell them about it.</p><p>Monologue at the start was a bit long imo, but once all the characters came together on stage it got better.. Camille Bacon-Smith<p>Spending the day poring over the Philadelphia Fringe Festival catalog. The Festival runs through most of September, and I usually cover 3 or 4 shows and this year a column on dance at the festival. But there are hundreds of shows to pick from, so it is an overwhelming abundance of choices. And I am always hoping for that one serendipitously enchanting piece that stays with me for years to come (the one I threw in on the off-chance it would be interesting). LordWoolamaloo<p>Sunday off and a day with dear chum at the <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Fringe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fringe</span></a> beckons, with marimba playing and tap dancing on the menu because, well, <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Edinburgh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Edinburgh</span></a> Fringe and things like that happen here in August.</p><p>But first meeting chum for leisurely lunch in theGreek Pastry place, then it's Culture Vulture Mode. I've booked something, she's booked something but isn't telling me what, so later afternoon will be a total surprise. Which is good, festival is for exploring stuff.</p>
RenegadeRich<p>Anyone heading to the Edinburgh Fringe this year, I can highly recommend going to see Tartan Tabletop! The reading features original songs by Jane Burgess Harcourt, sung by Suzanne Boucher and accompanied by Peter Hoffman on guitar.
