Jobs for the weekend - 05/06 April

Ive got a bit of building to do, but other than that its tidying, jet-washing, and planting out the sunflowers, which have basically ALL germinated!

I planted twenty bulbs a couple of years ago. Only two have come up this year or, rather, not been eaten by our visitor, the muntjac.

Jobs for the weekend - 29/30 Mar

As well as catching up on a bunch of stuff from last weekend, i’ll be preparing tomato frames, mulching borders and planting summer flowering bulbs, building wildlife tunnels with the help of the neighbours and possibly feeding the lawns.

Elephants' ears are beginning to flower beautifully but the leaves, every last one, have been eaten. Bloody muntjac!
But then, I wanted a wildlife friendly garden, hence I am getting the wildlife, which is satisfying. Ah well …

Jobs for the weekend - 22/23 March

My top-soil and bark mulch got delivered so need to shift all of that, which will allow for carrots, snips and salad to be sown. Got some maintenance to do as well, oiling and sharpening tools etc.

Also going to plan out a “habitat stack”. Logs and leaves and whatnot for any wildlife that might want to use it

Seed trays on the living room floor - this is only part of it.
Sowed annuals, biennials and perennials today. 320 seed tray cells in all. Seems a bit over the top as I only wanted to plug a few gaps in borders. Don't know how it happened.

Super productive day today! Not only did I get to sow my courgettes, peppers and chives, but I went a bit mad and sowed a bunch of flowers as well :) Also built a greenhouse! So the setup has had a massive upgrade!

Off to the garden centre for lots of seeds! Weeding, sowing courgettes and chives and preparing for 3 tonnes of top-soil!

Harrison spent many hours in his garden, finding inspiration, hanging out with his friends. He understood how being in #Nature restores the soul! If you're in the area, check it out!

"George’s love of gardening was an integral part of his identity. In an interview in Rolling Stone magazine in 1979, the renowned singer-songwriter described himself as 'just a gardener.' His strong association with gardening was further illustrated in his 1980 autobiography, I Me Mine, dedicated 'to gardeners everywhere.'

"In 1970, not long after The Beatles disbanded, the then 27-year-old George purchased the estate of Friar Park in Henley-on-Thames, a small town in the county of Oxfordshire, England. Built by an eccentric lawyer named Sir Frank Crisp in 1889, this once grand Victorian mansion with spectacular gardens had fallen into disrepair. With the help of his wife, Olivia Harrison, George was able to revitalize the neglected property, consisting of the mansion, lodges, and 32 acres of grounds. It was in this process that George’s love of gardening began to flower.

"George’s free approach to gardening combined creativity, spontaneity, whimsy, humor, and joy. This approach has inspired the exhibition at Selby Gardens, which combines a dynamic display of objects and ephemera in the Museum of Botany & the Arts with stunning horticultural vignettes in the Tropical Conservatory and throughout the gardens of the 15-acre Downtown Sarasota campus. Featured throughout the exhibition are a selection of George’s music and lyrics, as well as excerpts from Came the Lightening, a book of poems by Olivia Harrison dedicated to George and reflecting on their time together. The resulting multi-sensory experience highlights George’s connection to nature and celebrates his life and legacy through the power of plants."
