Spent lunch checking on the seedlings and filling the bird feeder. Seedlings are: broccoli, microgreens, onions.

The annual negotiation with #blackberries has begun. I spent an hour in the yard this morning with my clippers explaining my position that they already have enough room. They have multiple negotiators on their side explaining that they are too confined. To be continued. #pnw #winning #gardening
I did not believe that the blossoms on the Mexican plum (Prunus mexicana) in the back garden would survive long in the wet and windy conditions of the past week, but here we are a week after my initial post, and the blossoms are still on the tree.
Every time I think about what I might do in the flower gardens this year, I wake up to new snow. #Gardening #Zone5 #SpringSnow
I have hosta's coming up from self set seed, thats never happened before.#gardening

Salad season
Over the next few weeks is the perfect salad season, just after the winter chill has passed and before the summer heat arrives...
#ThreeGoodThings #3GoodThings
1 - The sun was out so I clipped blackberries after work
2 - Found a new (to me) plant to add to my #forest #garden (Astilbe - any #gardening nerds out there who can advise about planting under a shady birch and laurel row, cedars and liquorice fern adjacent - irrigated)
3 - Unwrapped a mystery book from a trip to #Vancouver and I am terribly excited just from reading the first 10 pages. 3 heroines in 1942, holding down the homefront in the Scottish Women's Timber Corps. Women in a repressive Patriarchical society during wartime, can't imagine why THAT's my jam right now... couldn't stomach Parable of the Sower - too fresh, too close... sorry Octavia.
Drosera capensis (the Cape Sundew) is joining the flowering party. The small whitish flowers below the curved flower stalk of the sundew are from a species of terrestrial bladderwort.
Back on my hydroponic bullshit.
One lisianthus balanced with eight poppies, because the one will likely fail and the others could actually succeed.
Pro-tip if you’re looking to go more native for your home landscaping: GrowNative.org
- Info about specific plants
- Native plant garden designs
- Specific suggestions for different groups of wildlife
- Info about carbon capture, managing storm water runoff, building healthy soil, etc.
Soooo many resources there for doing right by pollinators and the overall environment. #gardening #PlantNative
