Desperation is setting in among the Conservatives. Teesside Mayor Ben Houchen has suggested a coalition with Nigel Farage’s Reform UK to oust Labour — but is he the wrong man saying the wrong thing?

With Houchen’s questionable history and the deep divisions in the Tory party, could this risky strategy destroy their long-term future instead of saving it?

At least 200,000 protesters rally in Munich against #FarRight #AfD ahead of German election

February 8, 2025

MUNICH, Germany (AP) — "More than 200,000 protesters rallied in Munich, Germany, on Saturday against #FarRightExtremism ahead of the country’s #GeneralElection.

"The far-right, #AntiImmigrant #AlternativeForGermany, or AfD, is in second place in recent polls and has prompted widespread protests across the country before voters cast their ballots on #February23.

"The protest at Munich’s Theresienwiese — where Oktoberfest takes place each year — brought a significantly larger crowd than expected, according to the German dpa news agency. The event’s organizer estimated the crowd could be up to 320,000 people, many of whom carried signs against the AfD with slogans like, '#Racism and #hatred is not an alternative.'

"The protest was supported by #ActivistGroups as well as the #MunichFilmFestival, #churches and Munich soccer clubs FC Bayern and TSV 1860, among others. Police told dpa that the demonstration was peaceful.

"Similar #protests attracted large crowds on Saturday in #HanoverGermany, #RostockGermany, and elsewhere in Germany, mirroring other demonstrations that have occurred across the country in recent weeks."

It was a pain in the ass and hugely expensive to send (by courier) but I have just mailed my Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot. It is expected to arrive October 24th. This is a reminder to all US citizens abroad that *you are running out of time to vote* fvap.gov

#ChrisPhilp is on #BBCLauraK saying the #Rwanda scheme would have been an effective detterrent, but unfortunately, the first flight was scheduled for three weeks after the #GeneralElection is an amusing piece of deception.

Surely, even a pillock like Philp knows the GE was called on that date was because lawyers were lined up to prevent those take offs and Sunak did not want to end his ministry with another failure chalked up against him.

Hey peeps, a little while back I saw a post asking that General Election leaflets be sent to an organisation that are archiving them, (I bookmarked the post I thought?) would anyone know of it or can suggest a search term/string to find it please?

The Electoral Reform Society (ERS) looks at the results of the recent UK general election and highlights four outcomes. It was the most disproportional GE result in history, with only 15% of MPs elected with more than half the votes in their constituency. The system of voting needs serious reform.
