« Posons-nous un instant la question : qu’est-ce que le #code #source d’un réseau de #neurones ? […] La #GPL fournit une définition : le code source est la forme de l’œuvre privilégiée pour effectuer des #modifications. Dans cette acception, le code source d’un réseau de neurones serait l’#algorithme d’entraînement, le réseau de neurones de départ et le #corpus sur lequel le réseau a été entraîné »

#licesing question.

People share (a)gpl code on github. Github is not available everywhere (even read access I think).

Does that break the GPL?

"...must prominently offer all users interacting with it remotely through a computer network (if your version supports such interaction) an opportunity to receive the Corresponding Source of your version by providing access to the Corresponding Source from a network server at no charge, through some standard or customary means of facilitating copying of software"

(AGPL 3, section 13)

I really wish #uutils was under a copyleft license. It’s cool but using it just makes it easier for mega corps to lock down things even more. Yah #rust / #rustlang is faster and more secure, but #GPL is better for society.

If we were using uutils in 2005 we wouldn’t have the free routers that we have now. I don’t want to think what could be lost if we just drop all things #GPL for mit license stuff. It’s just helping megacorps at societies expense.

This video is about Ubuntu replacing GNU coreutils that have a GPL license with a Rust-based implementation called uutils that has an MIT license. It touts the higher safety of rust and improved performance for a few tools like sort. But it points out that the license makes it such that improvements to the code can be kept proprietary and goes against the general Linux ethos.

#FreeSoftwareFoundation rides to defend #AGPLv3 against #Neo4j license add-ons
FOSS bods file amicus brief in hope of preserving core #GNU tenet of freedom forever
"At stake is the future of not just the AGPLv3, but the #FSF's widely used GNU Public License it is largely based on, and the software covered by those agreements."

#EA today released as #opensource #CommandAndConquer Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Renegade, and Generals - Zero Hour. The #game #sourcecode is now under a #GPL license and available for the fan community to modify and extend as well as allowing these games to build on platforms moving forward.
Beyond just making the old source code available, EA has enabled #SteamWorkshop support for more Command and Conquer titles.

#Appealscourt may kill a #GNU #GPL software license
If #appellatecourt upholds Neo4j v. PureThink decision, which endorsed database maker #Neo4j's right to amend GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (#AGPL), governing use of its software with new binding terms, current assumptions about enforceability of #copyleft licenses will no longer apply. Issue before appeals court boils down to the right to remove contractual restrictions added to the terms of the #APGLv3.
