If you are studying (or cramming) for your Canadian #AmateurRadio Operator Certificate Basic Qualification exam, remember that today, 7/15, is the 1st day of the new question bank. Unlike the US NCVEC question pools that get updated every 4 years, the Basic question bank hasn't been updated since 2013.

I have read the report on the changes & a LOT of work went into the updates which had to make sense in both official languages.

Here's a monday tip for hams and computer folks - something I've discovered:

If you use Android phones, DON'T use .local as your lan pseudo-TLD.

Android doesn't work correctly with .local - use .lan or something else instead, set it in the DHCP section of your router.

Otherwise you may have trouble accessing those .local devices with your phone.

Have a great Monday! 73

The ‘Lambda Diode’ circuit, made from two J-FETs (one P- and one N-Channel) exhibits ‘negative resistance’ and has a ‘hysteresis’ curve when viewed on a curve tracer. A bit like a ‘tunnel diode’, actually.

Circuits like these were a common way to make an oscillator from just a few components, as my next post will show.

I always end up using my analogue #Hameg scope for curve tracing in X-Y mode, it works a lot better than any of the digital scopes I have 🤷🏼‍♂️🙂 In fact, I have yet to experience a digital scope with even a half-decent X-Y mode..

Thanks for the inspiration @va3db 🙂👍🏼

Greetings Elmers! Seeking advice on buck converters.

I ordered a QRP Labs QMX. For this model, they are extremely specific that it must not be powered by more than 12V. This means a LiFePo4 battery is out. Unless of course I put a buck converter inline to ensure only 12V goes to the QMX. Since it's a QRP radio, it consumes roughly 1A max current.

Any advice on what buck converter options make the most sense here?

so, a few months ago I got an email from the local ARRL Bureau for QSL cards, and they said I had some waiting, so I sent them the $3 and waited... lol

I just got the mail today, and oh my gosh, there has to be 30 to 40 QSL cards for the past 5 years here! 😮 this is going to take some time to catch up on, 😂

I personally watched someone use an air cannon at field day to put an antenna wire over a tree. So yes, this video is made as a toy but they can be useful.

I've seen slingshots used as well and dog toys. I watched someone use a long plastic pipe extension gizmo. I guess pick your tool. ;)
