Our garden is crazy. I think the neighbours must hate us 😄.

We have a herb bed which has gone out of control. There's a metre tall lemon balm, a huge spread of thyme, sage, marjoram, oregano and chamomile. There's abundant lavender and rosemary, and a beautiful bush of wormwood.

The bed sits in front of a peach tree and there are a few companion succulents in there. We've kept it well, but I think it's time for a harvest.

Does anyone know any good (and simple) recipes with lemon balm?

I don't give Christmas presents to many people outside my family. I like it that way -- it appeals to my anti-consumerism -- but there is one friend with whom I always exchange gifts and even though she has a lot of cool interests, I don't always know what to get her.

I'm conscious of adding to clutter when I know she's working on minimising that, plus we don't live close to each other so I have to send the gift. And we are of the age (and indeed the privilege) where we have most of what we need.

Watering the garden this morning, I had a thought: herbs. I have several growing in the garden, and I could dry some, bag them up and send them to her so she can use them in cooking or tea. I'm so excited about this idea :)

Given the state of US healthcare and the likelihood of anti-science anti-health people taking charge of government agencies, I'm planning on increasing the number and variety of multi-use food/medicinal plants in the garden both annual and perennial. I'm zone 5a. Looking especially for shade to part shade for underneath trees. Would love recommendations! #gardening #herbs

White sage is a closed tradition of Native American peoples. Unless you belong to those groups please don't use white sage in ritual, ceremonial or commercial ways. It is being over harvested for use in smudging, particularly in California.

If you are a Euro-American pagan/wiccan/heathen please consider using alternative herbs. White sage (Salvia apiana) is native to the West Coast. Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) is native to Europe, and is used medicinally.

Dude! No, it's not what you might think, it's sweet annie (Artemisia annua) that grows nearly as weeds in the garden but, as I get high demand for it from friends, I've collected and am now drying for storage roughly 10 kg of it on a 1 x 1 m tarp. I mean, that's a lot of medicinal, herbal tea!! We also won't need any incense in the house for the foreseeable future, I'm sure 😂 (I find its smell pleasant though).
