FiGood morning folks, well I slept soundly, pretty sure I didn't move all night. Coffee and meds are definitely needed this morning. I have a couple of chores to do, that I can do very soon since they are quiet chores. Need to make an effort to eat healthy today, Bob the gallstone is making himself known, not painful as such, but uncomfortable and I am very aware of him. I need to do some exercise with the resistance bands today, for the sake of my back. It's the village gala day today, so later I will be in full hibernate mode and have all the windows closed so I don't have to listen to it. More sessions in F1 to watch today, might have new fabric arriving for the new cross stitch (shush, I am well aware I have loads of other patterns on the go and a heap of fabric already), and of course, lots of WoW will be played. I have some old data which I regularly delete using <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Hibernate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Hibernate</a>, by nulling out the reference to it and removing it.Nulling out the reference requires reading the referencing entity then writing it, which is mostly a waste of time, so I decided I'd have a go at updating only that field. This can be done using Hibernate, but I'm also slowly migrating the code base to <a href="https://aus.social/tags/JPA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#JPA</a> (yes we are a few years behind).So the stupid plan is to have two DAOs, one for Hibernate (this is the existing DAO) and one for JPA. The service can use EITHER but not both, as they have separate caches etc. I wrote the new update in JPA, and compared the speed of the two using System.nanotime().At first I was a bit annoyed that the new code seemed to be only about 10% quicker than the old code, then I noticed that the nanotime measurements were missing a whole digit - 200,000,000 nanos rather than 2,200,000,000. So 90% quicker.I like this stupid plan and now I wonder what else I can fuck with like this.

DrFriendless 🇵🇸OK, I have maybe the most Hail Mary question ever asked but it's worth a go. My work day has been plagued by memory issues in the web servers, and the problem was that 3 different @Lob fields in the database were corrupted with the inclusion of repeated sequences of the text below.The fields were in 3 different client accounts, in a database with no public IP and which needs an SSH key to get to. Also the Lobs were made so large (50meg or thereabouts) they caused severe performance issues. So I don't think we were hacked.But then, what happened? The objects containing the Lobs were definitely written by our code, but those particular fields were not modified - one was in my own account, and no way was I logging in to corrupt data on a Sunday.My best guess is that some out of memory condition caused the Lobs to be copied incorrectly? Maybe the JDBC driver got corrupted?
