Sneaking in a few days in Dublin before heading back to work next week. Beautiful weather today for a train trip to Howth, walking on the cliffs for a couple of hours. The smell of that gorse..

The Howth gun-running involved the delivery of 1,500 Mauser rifles to the Irish Volunteers at Howth harbour in Ireland on 26 July 1914. The unloading of guns from a private yacht during daylight hours attracted a crowd, and the authorities ordered police and military intervention. Despite this the Volunteers evaded the security forces and carried away the arms.
TGI Fenster Freitag. Two tiny windows in a Martello Tower in Howth. So I guess it’s a bit of a Bloomsday toot too; although it’s a Martello Tower on my side of the city and not Buck Mulligan’s one on the Southside. #FensterFreitag #WindowFriday #FuinneogFriday #Bloomsday2023 #JamesJoyce #Howth #MartelloTower #Window #Ulysses #Dublin #Ireland #Mastodaoine

Can't resist the Irish urge to show the world photographic evidence of Ireland and a blue sky co-existing!

In the peaceful harbour of Howth, Co Dublin, a small blue boat bobbed gently in the water. The sky was overcast and grey, a sign that rain might be on the way, but that didn’t deter people from coming out to walk along the pier and take in the sights and sounds of the bustling harbour.

As I was waiting on the moon to rise in Howth I had a look north. Those hills in the distance are actually the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down, over 80kms away…
Here’s a few crops from the panorama, to give an indication of the full detail in the image…
It’s manky out there right now, so here’s what is was like while I prepared for the full moon, in the sunshine on the beach, the other day in Howth
This is a panorama composed of 25 individual shots. The original would be 5.6 meters long, if printed full size.
This evening’s full moon, the Worm Moon, rising behind the Howth Lighthouse.
Witnessing the rising full moon is something that gives me so much joy. I will never tire of the sight. It can be a fickle muse, but not this evening…
The sky is clear, the tide is out. It’s looking good for moonrise this evening…look to the east at 6:10
I think I need more Irish beach in my life.
#HowthHarbour with some impressive sky
Following on from yesterday’s photo of the new lighthouse in Howth Harbour is this one of the original lighthouse. It sits at the mouth of the harbour and according to Wikipedia was built in the early 19th century.
If you take a walk out to the end of the pier at Howth Harbour, you will find a tall, thin building. It is the 'new' lighthouse, and has been in operation since May 19th, 1982.
It's a lovely walk out there. Plenty of people there walking their dogs, and even a couple of people cycling.
There is no better moment on the water than when this happens…
Here’s a short video clip we managed to catch when a large pod of dolphins joined our #irishcoastguard boat on passage from #howth to #malahide
