It just occurred to me that when someone asks for information that you could easily find online:
- they're not asking for the information, and
- it's not easy to find things online
Let me explain, Tarantino-style.
- People often say "G00gle it!" because if they found it that way, then so could you. This is actually a poor assumption. Not only do search engines vary results based on location and other factors, more importantly, the person who you are saying "Juugull EET!" to IS NOT YOU.
As an individual who is particularly skilled and experienced in technical matters, not only do I know the right search terms to find a thing online, I also (and this is crucial and leads to point number 1) know what I'm looking for.
- People don't want just any information. They want information that is:
• credible,
• vetted,
• trustworthy,
• reliable, and
• safe
With all the information and misinformation online, all the scams, and hacks, and frauds, it seems like everyone is out to make a buck off you, legally, or not. With my tech experience, it is trivial to spot scams and know good information from bad. However, the training and experience I have wasn't easy and came after years of study and exposure. Not many have it.
People don't want information. They want assistance that is trustworthy, safe, and reliable. Those of us with tech skills might remember that the next time they go to tell someone to "Yoogl It".
Things that are simple to some, are mountainous to others.
