#JapanPost is debuting some sort of concept that ties your physical (home) address to a 7-character alphanumeric code (i.e. ABC-12D6
) - sorta like how DNS works on the internet, I suppose.
The idea is, for mailing purposes or even for online shopping platforms - instead of manually filling up your full address (which supposedly can be a lot more complicated in #Japan), you could instead give them this unique code.
You will need to sign up with Japan Post to get this Digital Address. I wonder about the security and logistical implications of this, in the long term - but the concept itself is pretty neat, honestly.
Even in Malaysia, it's not uncommon to easily find your exact address on one service/platform, but struggle to find/register the exact same address on a different app which might rely on a poorer map service - delegating this to a 'single source of truth' denoted only by a 7-char long code might make sense. https://lp.da.pf.japanpost.jp
