Greetings from #Japan, @AjaanMark Buddhism aims for a self-transcendent realization, but it can hardly be conceptualized. No self -> no Buddhists could be true from a conceptual standpoint, or on different levels a reductio ad absurdum or #koan to help someone go beyond the #duality. Having experienced Buddhism, importantly as a #meditation practice, when I studied Buddhism from the perspective of #Jungian #psychology in graduate school, I quickly realized that what #Buddhists were looking to the Buddha for was, vicariously, what we would call the self-realization process. I saw it in dreams and legends in the #hagiography of the #Buddha. What Western people today need is #liberation from inner conflict, so free self-expression should not be a taboo in a new Orientalist orthodoxy that reduces people to humblebragging, apologizing or attacking. As Alan Watts told me at age 22 in San Francisco, "let nature take its course."
