Dmian 🇪🇺<p>I took a few pictures more of the recently acquired Mac Plus. Personal trivia: a second hand Mac Plus was the first computer I bought with my own money. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macplus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macplus</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macintosh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macintosh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/retrocomputers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputers</span></a></p>

1Bit<p>full screen scroll programming test in C, captured on my Mac Plus, CopyBits was used <br><a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/vintageapple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintageapple</span></a> <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/vintageprogramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintageprogramming</span></a> <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/macplus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macplus</span></a> <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/macintosh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macintosh</span></a></p>
hkz<p>I like this setup more and more as I use it.<br>Here the iPad LCD is connected to the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> using an RGBtoHDMI, and is showing the Mac downloading a file from the M68K Club BBS.</p>
hkz<p>So, another nice update on the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone.</p><p>Two updates, actually.</p><p>1st: I forgot that I had an "old" SCSI2SD around, pulled it out and the Mac was able to boot from it! Quite cumbersome as a setup, though.<br>2nd: The PLCC adapter for the 5380 works! Will release it soon-ish.</p>
hkz<p>And now, thanks to <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://tech.lgbt/@DosFox" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>DosFox</span></a></span>, the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone boots with 4x1MB banks, and it accepts banks with 4-bit DRAMs just fine (well, actually it complained about some Samsung sticks, but I suspect them to be defective).</p><p>Where to go from here?<br>- I need to replace the 'LS253 with ones from the F family<br>- I need something to boot from. I do have SCSI adapters around, no idea if they play fine with Mac. I think I'll just go with a BlueSCSI, either bought or built.<br>- I need something to move the mouse, maybe adapting an Amiga mouse or using this <a href="https://github.com/Black-FX/RP2040_Mouse_KiCAD" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/Black-FX/RP2040_Mou</span><span class="invisible">se_KiCAD</span></a><br>- I need a keyboard adapter</p><p>The road is still a long one!</p>
hkz<p>It's alive! ALIVE!!!<br>And it made a happy sound!</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://tech.lgbt/@DosFox" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>DosFox</span></a></span> alive!!!</p><p>To elaborate the point, the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone I am building is alive and dings!</p><p>I decided to just use one of the vertical ATX connectors I had around.</p>
hkz<p>Hmmm crap. Seems I have loads of "2 chips" (+ parity) 1MB SIMM modules but just 3x 256K modules and just 2x 1MB "1bit ram" modules.<br>From what I gather around, the modules with 4-bit chips seems to be incompatible.</p><p>Can anyone confirm?</p><p>Otherwise I'll try to bring up the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone with either 2MB or 512K</p>
hkz<p>Power/video/audio cable for the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone is ready!!</p>
hkz<p>Getting a colorful power cable ready for the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone build.</p>
hkz<p>More ICs in the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> clone, including the GALs, but I'm still missing 5x 74F253 (I have plenty of 'LS253, but I suspect the F ones are there for a reason) and 2x LS166.</p><p>I'm still searching between all my scrap.</p>
hkz<p>That's enough ICs for today.<br>I don't trust that resurfaced SCSI IC, but I have old PLCC ones and I made an adapter. Can try those if needed.</p><p>I also lack the 'F253s (I have loads of 'LS253 though...), the '161 and '166. Will have to order them at the end of the month.</p><p>Tomorrow I'll have a look at the GALs I can use for the PLDs. <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a></p>
hkz<p>Finally, the SIMM sockets are soldered to the <a href="https://social.chinwag.org/tags/MacPlus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacPlus</span></a> motherboard. They were the last thing that needed soldering.</p><p>Now, to start plugging things in...</p>
