A March bloomer and native to Japan, Stachyurus praecox 'Rubriflora', is a unique shade-garden plant, draped in a curtain of tassels before the foliage emerges. It reminds me of the plant that @eugeneparnell posted, another March bloomer, but his is a native to the Pacific North West and an evergreen: Garrya elliptica, or silk tassel tree. Take a look.

Deciduous azalea season is for the bold of heart and mind.

Double pink tulips are having their say this week. These are a few of the survivors from the devastating Christmas Freeze last year that killed so many plants here in Georgia.

The winter garden jewel box contains a colorful assortment of Primroses: Primula Hethor Coco Purple, Primula Hethor Tagetes Mix featured here. They are short-lived here in Georgia, but too pretty to pass up for a few weeks of winter joy.
