The Submariners' Memorial in Elder Park in Glasgow. It's principally dedicated to the 32 people who died when the submarine K13 sank during sea trials in the Gare Loch in 1917, including 6 employees from the nearby Fairfield Shipyard where it had been built. Miraculously, 48 of the people who were on board at the time were successfully rescued after some 60 hours trapped at the bottom of the sea.

Have I ever told you about the time when I was walking down one of the #RiversOfLondon, found the nearest point to the source where I could see water & as I climbed back past the brambles, I read an envelope tucked by a tree:

A statue of the Glaswegian broadcaster, writer, climber and all round outdoor enthusiast Tom Weir at Balmaha on the banks of Loch Lomond. Unveiled in 2014 to mark the centenary of his birth, it was created by the sculptor Sean Hedges-Quinn.

The memorial is in Bug Light Park, a scenic point of land overlooking Portland Harbor which was once home to a sprawling World War II Shipyard that covered 140 acres of land, including over 60 buildings, and could build up to 13 ships at one time. From 1941 through 1945, the South Portland Shipyards built 266 cargo vessels, 236 of which were Liberty Ships, contributing immeasurably to the Allied victory in World War II.
The sculpture accurately portrays the bow section of the Liberty Ship as she would have appeared under construction; measuring 35 feet tall and 65 feet long.

The War Memorial Cottage in Gartcosh just to the east of Glasgow. Designed by Gavin Lennox, it was built as a memorial nurses home, and features two plaques listing the names of local residents who died in World War I (on the left hand gate pillar) and World War II (on the right hand one).

A small Arts and Crafts style cottage built in the 1930s as a memorial to those from the local area who died in World War I.
