I’ve used Mendeley since I was an undergrad, but the bugs have worn me down and I want to switch. I think Zotero looks to be the best place to go next?
Now I just need to overcome the rage (and effort barrier) that I can’t transfer the library structure from Mendeley in one go, thanks for that Elsevier…
A friend has started a master's degree and I told her that friends don't let friends use Evil Elsevier™'s #Mendeley and to get #Zotero from https://zotero.org :) #TeamZotero
Will be buying Rintze Zelle a coffee after this genius little tool saved me several hours of tedious work: https://rintze.zelle.me/ref-extractor/! Super quick and easy way to extract #Zotero and #Mendeley references from Microsoft Word and LibreOffice documents. #GrantWriting #AcademicChatter
#Zotero #Citavi #Endnote #Mendeley #JabRef
@gubi Thanks for the info. I've just imported from #Mendeley and it looks like everything is there and the #Zotero citing plug-in works too, thanks for helping me escape from #EvilElsevier
@Buxton_Vienna #Zotero imported all my #Mendeley library in few minutes without any problem, and discovered also one retracted item because it is integrated with retraction watch. Starred folder is not imported, so if you want to get it on Zotero just create a "favorites" collection in Mendeley before the import and put there all the starred items to see this collection migrated to Zotero.
@gubi How did this move from #Mendeley to #zotero work for you? I've been using Mendeley since 2012 (so long before it was bought by #elsevier !) but the cloud version and this new Mendeley Cite thing in Word are driving me nuts today. I don't have time to wait for it to constantly think about every reference #ReferenceManager #academicchatter #academicmastodon #publishing
Et tu, @Lambo & @fuzzyleapfrog? The non-#Mendeley versions of that directory are https://www.zotero.org/styles & https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles & https://editor.citationstyles.org/visualEditor/
A cry for help: how do I extricate myself from #Mendeley, halfway through a book manuscript? The new Mendeley Cite in Word does not allow me to update existing Word documents that used Mendeley. So I can't update citations, add any new citations or insert the bibliography in existing chapters :-/ Any advice? @academicchatter
Also, remember that #Elsevier owns #Mendeley, which it uses to collect data on you. #Zotero is #OpenSource and not run a by an EvilCorp.
See this blog by @eikofried and Robin Kok on Elsevier's #data extraction and collection practices.
Lots of reasons to ditch anything to do with Elsevier.

When I say Evil Elsevier™ I really mean it.
Also, ditch #Elsevier's #Mendeley right now, and get Https://zotero.org #TeamZotero
Zotero continues to be the best reference manager around — #FOSS, made by scholars for scholars. Upcoming features (now available for beta testing) include automatic relinking of #mendeley citations, much faster #googledocs integration, and support for #latex math in notes
If you don't use a reference manager yet (or if you're using a for-profit one like Mendeley or EndNote) you can always give #Zotero a whirl: it's free and doesn't lock you in: https://zotero.org
