Scribblemacher<p>I don't own <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MetroidDread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MetroidDread</span></a> so I decided to just play the demo. It was a lot faster than I expected (and "fast" is not what I associate with Metroid), and those EMMI sections are ridiculously terrifying. Of course the demo ends right after getting the cloaking agility, so maybe those EMMI sections change when you can actually hide instead of run screaming for your life. <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Maytroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Maytroid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>metroid</span></a></p>
repeatro<p>I will take a break from the Luigi playthrough in Super Mario Galaxy before I start into the final part of the 100%-challenge to be fully motivated for that. 💫</p><p>Therefore I will start into a parallel 100%-playthrough I really look forward to. After I finished Metroid Prime from the Wii Prime Trilogy in 2024 and being hyped for the Prime 4 release on Switch later this year, I will head for Prime 2 on Veteran difficulty.🪐</p><p><a href="https://stream.repeatro.de/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">stream.repeatro.de/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Owncast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Owncast</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Wii" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wii</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/games" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>games</span></a></p>
Scribblemacher<p>Anyone else try the motion controls in Metroid Prime Remaster? I remember really liking the controls in Metroid Prime 3 with the WiiMote for aiming. I tried playing with the motion controls in the remaster for about 30 minutes or so, but it never felt comfortable. <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Maytroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Maytroid</span></a></p>
Scribblemacher<p>Finished a replay of <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/SuperMetroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SuperMetroid</span></a> tonight. Confirmed: it's still great. </p><p>So far for <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> I've finished:</p><p>+ Metroid<br>+ Metroid II<br>+ Super Metroid<br>+ Metroid Fusion</p><p>I have an in-progress save in Metroid Prime as well, where I'm close to going to the Mines (so I might quit, haha). I tried Pinball but hated it and Hunters, but found it boring.</p><p>There's Zero Mission, but I did replay that within the past year. </p><p>Apparently I forgot how much I like <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a></p>

skoot<p>Metroid Zero Mission is going well. I just beat a big fat dinosaur and have gotten several upgrades. Most of the time I feel like I'm just stumbling around with no idea what to do until I happen find my way into something. It is a very rewarding feeling to figure out some of these things though. This game still hasn't changed my dislike of platformers lol</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VideoGameClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VideoGameClub</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a></p>
Scribblemacher<p>One of the things I've noticed in replaying <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MetroidPrime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MetroidPrime</span></a> is that its boss fights are too long. A good boss is a skill check, a test that a player understands a core mechanic, and for the most part, that's what Metroid Prime does. However, many bosses keep going long after the player has passed it's test.</p><p>Thardus, for example, is a test on using the thermal visor to find and expose a weak point, then blow it up. The player needs to go through the pattern seven times. It's not difficult, but it is tedious since the pattern doesn't change much.</p><p>This made me think more about why 3 is the magic number in boss fights. (1) Introduce the boss and gimmick, (2) add a new element, (3) final test. More Metroid Prime bosses should be 1-2-3 bosses.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>metroid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/bossfight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bossfight</span></a></p>
Scribblemacher<p>Started up <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/MetroidPrime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MetroidPrime</span></a> remaster for <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> . I finished it last year, but thought I'd run through hard mode and maybe good around a bit. I was disappointed to find out that the scan dash exploit to get the early space jump boots was removed, along with pretty much any other sequence break.</p><p>I find it interesting that, despite being a key part of discourse around many games in the series, no Metroid title seems to embrace sequence breaking and design for it.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>metroid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/metroidvania" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>metroidvania</span></a></p>
Scribblemacher<p>I was going to play Metroid Pinball as my next <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> game for <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> partly to be cheeky. I played a few rounds of it and I absolutely hate it. It's also hard as hell and I don't like <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/pinball" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pinball</span></a>. So my next will be Metroid Prime Hunters!</p>
IrgndSonDepp<p>And I'm done. All Metroids are dead.<br>.<br>.<br>.<br>All Metroids? 🤔</p><p>Well, I guess the last one is in captivity and the galaxy is at peace. 😅</p><p>2:29h isn't too bad. That got me all RetroAchievements except one: I somehow missed 5 Missile Containers.</p><p>I also did bomb the Metroid Queen's stomach for the first time. It's a pretty dangerous tactic, but it speeds up the fight drastically. I still don't understand why I sometimes got stuck in its mouth though. 🤔</p><p><a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> <a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/vgcmay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> <a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/videogameclub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VideoGameClub</span></a></p>
IrgndSonDepp<p>Still having fun with <a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> II - Samus' Return on the GameBoy. I'm now down to 3 Metroids and I've put down 2 Omega Metroids already. Surprisingly, I find them easier than the smaller evulation that comes before. The bigger Omegas stay put for longer, so you can hit them a few times with missiles, before they move. The smaller ones keep flying around the screen, so I ended up DPS racing them.</p><p>I love the soundtrack in the game. I like to think that Samus has a Walkman built into her power suit and the music we're hearing is diagetic, because she puts it on herself.</p><p>"Oh, it's just a tunnel going deeper into the planet. Let's put on <em>I'm just chillin'</em>." (Seriously, the title fits the music perfectly. Just try and sing it along.)</p><p>"Ooooh. This looks bad. Let's put on some creepy music."</p><p>"Nah, nevermind. <em>I'm just chillin'</em> it is."</p><p>"Gotta concentrate for a bit here."</p><p><strong>click</strong></p><p><em>tappa-tappa-footsteps</em></p><p>"Okay, back to <em>I'm just chillin'</em>." 😁</p><p><a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/videogameclub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VideoGameClub</span></a> <a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/vgcmay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a></p>
IrgndSonDepp<p>I lost all my progress in <a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> Zero Mission. 😢</p><p>I wanted to connect my headphones to the Vita and had to open the <em>Settings</em> app for that. I specifically waited for a save point and then opened the settings, killing RetroArch. I didn't remember that RetroArch needs to close ROMs cleanly to create a proper savegame. 😬</p><p>Well, I had just beaten Mother Brain and was in the post game sneak section anyway. I've never beaten the game before, but I've only heard bad things about the tacked on stealth section, so I'm not gonna play through all that again.</p><p>Instead I started the original Metroid II for the Gameboy. I did play it before, a few months ago, for maybe an hour, got discouraged because I lost 10 minutes of progress and turned it off forever. It's good. I mean it is <strong>as good</strong> as I remember it being from when I played it as a kid.</p><p>But I was super surprised to see that there's so much equipment you can miss in it. 😬 I only found the Varia Suit, High Jump Boots, Wave Beam and Morph Ball Jump <strong>after</strong> I had already taken out all the Metroids in area 3 (?).</p><p>I've just finished the area immediately after that and am down to 17 Metroids. I've also collected the Spazer and Plasma Beams in the meantime. Did I do it in the wrong order or is Plasma really just such a harsh downgrade after the wide Spazer and Wave Beams? 😩</p><p><a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/vgcmay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> <a href="https://gts.da-miez.de/tags/videogameclub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VideoGameClub</span></a></p>
Scribblemacher<p>This is my favourite map of <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a>. It shows the byte used to represent each room. The way tiles, objects, and rooms all fit together to make Zebes is quite beautiful.</p><p>Here is the source and explanation for how it works. I remember playing Metroid when the "secret worlds" were still novel and being discovered. Even though they are just glitches, I still like thinking that Zebes is so mysterious that even its own programmers couldn't control it. <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Metroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Metroid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/NEStroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NEStroid</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/VGCMay2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGCMay2025</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://metroiddatabase.com/old_site/m1/lvldata.php" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">metroiddatabase.com/old_site/m</span><span class="invisible">1/lvldata.php</span></a></p>
