So today is not going entirely to plan.
The set of additional #solarpanels I connected up refuse to give us juice. I tried to trace the fault and got jack shit info because my cheap ass 19 year old #multimeter is (confirmed by many tests now) not working any more. Its fuse is fine too, as is its #battery. It just displays zeros.
So add to the list of unexpected expenses and delays one new multimeter...

Earlier today my buddy Sean from Philly stayed an helped me set up that kiln I have been too busy to set up.

Sean used to work on the electrical in cars before he became a glassblower and studio technician. Currently building a web streaming and plasma studio of his own in Philly.

We almost got to a test firing- but one leg of the 240 volts was a dud- so they just gotta run that red wire to the other side of the 120 in the breaker.

It's so exciting to potentially have this thing working! I gotta email some people to get some electricians to rewire this thing... They SAID I have 50 amps of 240v.... But I really only have 120v

A view of the mercury relay an controller an kiln in progress. The relay has to be mounted in the proper orientation for proper operation. Liquid metal in there means no contacts to burn out for a more reliable operation. And a more expensive disposal when they finally do fail- but I already pay for that :)
