ploum<p>Fun fact: on April 1st, I joked that Offpunk will be renamed to XKCDpunk.</p><p>Everybody managed to get the joke.</p><p>Few realized that this was a true release and that the advertised XKCD feature has been trully implemented.</p><p><a href="https://ploum.net/2025-04-01-xkcdpunk.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">ploum.net/2025-04-01-xkcdpunk.</span><span class="invisible">html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/offpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>offpunk</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/xkcd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xkcd</span></a></p>

ploum<p>3 years ago, I released Offpunk 0.4 and said it was the start of "stabilisation-and-maturity".</p><p><a href="https://ploum.net/2022-02-21-offpunk04.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">ploum.net/2022-02-21-offpunk04</span><span class="invisible">.html</span></a></p><p>I was right. But, in reality, there have been so many improvements and bug fixes that <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/offpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>offpunk</span></a> went from "crazy experiment coded in 6 weeks" to "useful tool polished during 3 years that you can rely on everyday to get things done".</p><p><a href="https://offpunk.net/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">offpunk.net/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>That’s a (not so) subtle difference that most managers don’t g t.</p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a></p>

Thanos the tank engine<p>The PDA was a class of device we've left behind that I think now more than ever is something we need to revisit. it's a simple fact that cellular networks spy on you heavily, and at this point just physically carrying one can be a security issue if your location is sensitive. we also at this point know that being constantly connected can have a negative impact on your mental health.<br>So, why not bring back the class of device that you can carry with you, but isn't always connected? especially now, in the year of our lord 2025, when you can just go buy a storage device that can hold 2 terabytes of data and fits on your fingernail. the old school workflow of downloading what you want when you're connected, and then working with that data offline in between syncs, is more viable than ever. <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/offpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>offpunk</span></a> has been proving this to me. email clients still do this sort of functionality. why don't we extend this out? an offline client for mastodon would be a great step in that direction.</p>
Thalass<p>This is a really neat project! I personally like a slide-out keyboard but I could probably redesign the case to do that.
