Devin Prater :blind:
From the Orca mailing list:

Hey all.

I just landed a refactor in the main branch that impacts the following:

* Key echo (what is spoken when you press keys)
* Character echo (what is spoken when a character is inserted)
* Word + sentence echo (what is spoken as you type)

Hopefully I've broken nothing.

I've also made all the settings associated with these accessible via the
D-Bus Remote Controller. This should make it possible for games to turn
off key echo when keys are used for navigation. Note that this is like
all the other on-the-fly settings, so if you Alt+Tab into another app,
the change won't persist. But as I've mentioned before, and subsequently
documented [1], that is not a D-Bus-specific issue.

Regardless, I'd really appreciate some testing. Devin Prater :blind:
So, there are two issues here, one with Google Chrome and the other with Firefox. The Google Chrome issue also is reproduceable on Microsoft Edge.

Chrome: Orca repeats all lines of the document up to the cursor as one navigates.

* With Orca enabled, open Google Chrome.
* In the address bar, type docs.new
* Make sure both screen reader support and Braille support are enabled.
* Type "This is a test" and press Enter.
* Now, type "This is another test" and press Enter.
* Now, type "This is a third test" and press Enter.
* Press Up arrow once.

Orca will read "This is a test. This is another test. This is a third test." This makes navigating Google Docs very time consuming.

Firefox: Orca does not read the document outline.

* With Orca on, open Firefox.
* In the address bar, type docs.new
* With screen reader and Braille support enabled, press Control + Alt + 1 to create a heading at level 1.
* Type "This is a test heading."
* Press Enter, then press Control + Alt + 2, to create a heading at level 2.
* Now, type "This is a heading 2." Then, press Enter.
* Now, press Control + Alt + A, then H to open the document outline and tabs section.
* Tab to the document outline, and arrow up and down.

Orca will be silent when arrowing around the document outline. Since I have a document for work which uses a good 50 headings or more, the document outline is crucial for me to effectively do my job.

#Orca #linux #fedora #accessibility #blind
