What's funny is that again, even with our home PiHole (which has somewhat lax blocking for seamless internet browsing to any normie connected) got the malicious domain (mailchimp-sso .com) blocked

This is the second time my pihole blocked a phishing domain

It is amazing to see how good software does the job and stays out of your way. Example of this is #PiHole that is for years now running on tiny #RPi 3A+ without any problems 🙌 and serving all clients in my network. ❤️

@sidereal I feel the same way about it. A PiHole improves the overall internet experience. It doesn‘t kill ALL the anoying stuff, but I still consider it a big improvement. But you are right. It is sad enough that one has to take care about this shit rain by her/himself.

I needed a script to continuously monitor the queries handled by a local Pihole installation, and this didn't yet seem to exist for version 6, so I wrote one. Someone else might also have some use for it, so here you go: gist.github.com/floe/cd64ada1b

(Yes, it's not Codeberg, but they don't have gists (yet).)

Continuously fetch DNS query stats from Pihole 6. GitHub Gist: instantly share code, notes, and snippets.

Folks who want to hold off the escalating enshitification of Roku and keep their home screen working as originally intended, i.e. a place from which to launch apps to stream video, you should block

cloudservices.roku.com

in addition to using the Smart-TV Blocklist at

perflyst.github.io/PiHoleBlock

for various "smart TV" platforms and streaming services (not specifically Roku).

Installing pihole 6 on Debian Sid:

You _may_ encounter a "dependency unmet error".

To fix - manually install "bind9-dnsutils" and "lshw", then edit basic-install.sh and find the creation of the debian-meta.deb package. Modify the dependency to look for bind9-dnsutils instead of just dnsutils.

Then - run the base-install.sh.
