Linux has a lot of image and video libraries and apps. I've used some of them a lot to take and process lunar and planetary images like the one below of the #plato Crater region.

A Linux app operated the video camera that took the images, a Linux app stripped out the frames for processing, a Linux program that I wrote aligned and stacked the frames, and a Linux app provideed the tools to sharpen the resulting image.

Among the books I grabbed at the local bookcrossing spot yesterday was a little brochure of the 1956 English translation of Phaedrus by W.C. Helmbold and W.G. Rabinowitz (Twelfth edition from 1975). The pages are covered in pencil notes in Hebrew, but that’s not the interesting part — as I read it, I imagine Socrates speaking in Stephen Fry’s voice. Very, very amusingly fitting.

That said, Charles Dance’s voice would work brilliantly too.

“And when he has made himself master of the mob, and has disposed of foreign enemies by conquest or treaty, and there is nothing to fear from them, then he is always stirring up some war or other, in order that the people may require a leader.”

Later today, the first commercial launch of an #Ariane6 rocket is planned, after the maiden flight in July 2024 that was mostly successful. Ariane 6 had been the backup launcher for #Euclid for many years.

Originally and for many years, Euclid was slated to launch on a Russian #Soyuz from French Guyana, which changed following the invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent stop of collaboration of #ESA with Roskosmos, the company behind Soyuz.

After this, Ariane 6 became the primary launcher on launch slot 4 or 5, but given that Euclid was almost ready for launch already in 2022, alternatives were looked into, and in the end Euclid successfully launched with a US company on 1 July 2023.

So we've been following #Ariane6's development for a while. All the best for this launch 🤞🤞🏽🤞🏻.

Next #ESA #astronomy mission to be launched with Arianne 6 is the #exoplanet satellite #PLATO, towards the end of 2026.

In my free time I therefore read about #politics, #language & #religion but also enjoy #horror, mostly the supernatural kind.
I've written two 150k word "books" so far but never got to edit them up to any publishable standard.
It's going to be a 6-7 volume science-phantasy series, so I'm also heavily into #worldbuilding.
( #Δꙮ unrelated )
I try to get into #philosophy but have barely read any actual primary writings outside #Plato & #Camus (yes, I know) in full.
