I've completed 6 Hinterland dresses and I like each of them in their own way. The last 2, I made with batik cottons, deeper inseam pockets and large patch pocket on the front. I used narrow bias binding and made v-necks. I have more batik for #7! My wardrobe is not super varied. I tend to stick to the brands that I like, and purchase the same item, in various colors.What to wear is a problem. If I've solved it once, why make my life complicated? I just use the solution I've found.I used to like CQR cargo pants.Alas...This is no longer the case. The last pair I bought has shallow pockets. Most likely, some idiot figured that they'd be saving money by having shallow pockets.The first clue I got was when I took a nap with my pants on. Stuff was falling out of the pockets. :headache: I eventually took my tape measure, and proved to myself that the pockets are indeed shallower. In the pictures below, you'll find:* An old pair of CQR pants. * The new pair. * A pair of Wranglers with pockets more like the old CQR.I tend to be loyal to brands. Eh. If it works, it works. However, when brands enshittify their products... well... I ain't no fool. If I'm paying a high price for shitty stuff, I might as well switch to another product, which may be as shitty (but maybe in different ways), but will cost me half the price.I cannot tell yet how the Wranglers will hold up to use. Maybe, I'll have to replace them in one year, but even if this happens, I'm ahead of the game relative to paying for CQR's enshittified pants.Oh, I've taken naps with the Wranglers on. I'd hate to see one shut if it were still functional. Currently sewing stretchy phone-sized pockets onto all of my knit garments that don't currently have them.

TAVAloniaStudio work for a client yesterday involved improving this vintage jacket she inherited from an elder family member. I took it in at the shoulders and front breadth, allowing me to shorten the sleeves through the armhole at the same time as removing the space formerly allowed for shoulder pads. Then I added these pockets that are sort of a hybrid welt/buttonhole pocket. The velvet ribbon forms the simplest of decorative finish for the openings, which I kept narrower to minimize showing too much of the pocket lining at the opening. Normally, I would have made a facing, but not enough fabric came from the sleeve head adjustment. Everything I sew has pockets and I've gone back and added 5x7" pockets to my knit garments with black jersey that I have on hand. On woven garments, I typically cut out 8x8" for the pockets so I can lay a phone in sideways (more secure. JNAAfter wearing my cargo pants yesterday and being spoiled by decent sized pockets (I could fit my phone in the front pocket, keys, and lipstick without it falling out when I sit) I’m pissed again about the pockets in my current pants, back pocket I can only put my hand up to my second knuckle in the back (might fit a lipstick but it would fall out) and the front ones, stuff keeps falling out when I sit. I’m going to lengthen the pockets based on the cargo pants pockets, I don’t care if it ‘ruins the line of the pants, and adds bulkiness’ because as I always say, women’s pockets, when pants have them, are bullshit. And I don’t care if they make me look fat because I value function and comfort more. My son can fit a whole keyboard in his. I’ve been gradually lengthening my pockets as I get to them, or wearing a Fanny pack, but had to go to a funeral Sunday and got pissed again about my pockets. I want to empower other women with decent pockets, so we can take over. That poem about seditious pockets comes to mind. Or at least carry phones and keys.
