There’s something magical about watching a picture develop right after you take it—like with a Polaroid. But recently, I tried an old Sony Mavica, and the moment I heard and felt the tiny whir of the floppy drive saving the image right after pressing the shutter… it was a whole other kind of magic.

#Introduction

Hi! I am Luke, hi.

I am an #artist solely using #filmphotography

I like to make images that don't look like photographs (to me all photographic imagery is illusory).

I use #LargeFormat, #MediumFormat and am also particularly fond of #Polaroid (although my stock is the Fuji equivalent, pack film of which I still have a decent amount but it is finite unfortunately).

Some images attached.

Getting into #Polaroid photography -- especially with vintage cameras -- means having a large discard pile of Polaroids with defects that go beyond "funky imperfections" and cross over into just Not Good.

So I've started playing around with drawing on my discards with paint markers.

I don't draw or paint and this is the first time I've ever used paint markers and I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm having fun.

The first one is called "Eye Don't Have to Explain My Art to You."

Thinking about the peel-apart #Polaroid film I have hoarded in the fridge again. It's been 10 years since the last batches of b&w film were made, and values on eBay just keep going up, almost $100/pack. I'm locked in a state where I'm afraid to shoot it but also don't want to let go and sell it.
