TAX DAY PROTEST
April 15.
Noon local time.
Your biggest local post office.
(Where local media will be filming last minute filing.)
Protest the oligarchic regime, price gouging, billionaire bros, Citizens United, Trump's golf trips, the "welfare queen" that is Musk's rocket and tank subsidies, wage stagnation, election "donations," inflation...

Encourage every #MAGA to step away from their shiny new $6 billion tax for a moment & consider the circumstances & future they created for their oldest #rural relative.

Sitting in a freezing northern home with no heat subsidy or a swamped southern home without #fema, missing their puny #SocSec check because a trespassing bigball hacker fucked it up with no redress by phone, no #MealsonWheels, Sr center, or foodbank, #Medicare cut, no rural mail or #postoffice, scared of everything #Fox parlays.

#BettyWhite now has her own #ForeverStamp from the #USPS , thanks to Boston-area artist #DaleStephanos .

It took him about a year to design and complete. At the request of Betty's family, he included references to her work championing the cause of #AmimalRights , the most obvious symbol being the pawprint earring.

Stephanos' image of Betty brilliantly captures her sense of mischief and fun, by perfectly portraying her joyful smile and sparkling eyes.

#BettyWhiteStamps are now available for purchase through the U.S. Postal Service.

Please copy and paste into the forms on the websites of your members of Congress, and share with others. #Resist

Iinherently governmental functions should stay rooted in the government, and I wish to make it clear that I am against #privatization of essential government programs.

#MedicareAdvantage -the "market solution" to make #Medicare more efficient and cost the government less-costs the government more than Traditional Medicare, $80 billion more in 2024. Please ask the question loudly and frequently, "How does privatization help when it actually costs more? Why do we support a program that costs more when the lower-cost option already exists?"

Listen to the discussions about privatizing the "unprofitable" post office. Privatizing simply means that someone will extract profit out of the thing being privatized. Given the same resources, the same logistical constraints, and same desired services, how will privatization of the #PostOffice serve all Americans? Please ask the question frequently and loudly, "Who would benefit from privatization?"

We all know the answer: the rich and the connected. But talk about it often on social media and every time you are interviewed.

Please make the point in every discussion on the topic that privatization is always about extracting profit. It is never about serving Americans. Then please do everything in your power to fight efforts to privatize essential government services.

actionnetwork.orgStop Trump's Illegal USPS Takeover Donald Trump is attempting an illegal takeover of the United States Postal Service by firing the entire Postal Board of Governors and placing the USPS directly under the control of billionaire Trump donor Howard Lutnick, recently sworn in as Secretary of Commerce. Trump described it as a “type of merger.” But here’s the truth, the Postal Service is not a private business and it doesn’t belong to Trump or the White House, it belongs to the American people. This move is unconstitutional and blatantly illegal. In 1970, Congress passed the Postal Reorganization Act, explicitly removing the Postal Service from presidential control. They established the USPS as an independent, self-funded public agency. Trump's executive order would blatantly violate the law and undermine the separation of powers essential to our democracy. The Postal Board of Governors must reject this unlawful attempt by refusing Trump's firing order, and stay on the job to fight back. If Trump is successful, postal workers, seniors, and rural Americans will bear the brunt of the devastating consequences. Over 640,000 dedicated postal employees, including 73,000 veterans, will see their livelihoods jeopardized. Rural communities risk losing guaranteed delivery of medication, Social Security checks, ballots, and other essential mail. Trump's illegal plan would pave the way for a possible privatization of our public postal system by chopping up USPS, selling off its parts, and putting profit margins over public service. This isn't the first time we've faced such a threat. We've stopped Trump before, from privatization efforts in 2018 to attempted sabotage before the 2020 elections. Together with our diverse coalition of labor unions, veterans, voting rights advocates, civil rights groups, and grassroots activists across the nation, we've protected our Postal Service and we can and will do it again. Now we must stop Trump's unconstitutional power grab and keep the Postal Service in public hands, where it belongs. Click ‘START WRITING’ to sign and send a direct message to the Postal Board of Governors to refuse Trump's illegal order, stand strong, stay on the job, and save the Post Office from Donald Trump.

February 21, 1861 - The Confederate #PostOffice was established. Shortages of ink, paper, and postage stamps limited the amount of mail sent. The Confederate Post Office Department raised its rate to 5 cents on a half ounce letter. The increase still did not meet the expenses, so on July 1, 1862, the rate was standardized to 10 cents per letter, with newspaper and book rates dependent upon weight. Service was also reduced to three times per week [Source: Civil War Talk civilwartalk.com/threads/posta ]

BBC NewsPost Office Horizon scandal: Why hundreds were wrongly prosecutedHundreds of wrongly convicted sub-postmasters have had their convictions quashed.

Something I've just noticed about the Post Office Inquiry is that its official title is the "Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry".

Sorry, but that's BS. Plenty of companies use buggy software at one time or another. They don't all try to cover it up and ruin people's lives as a result.

It should be called the "Post Office Leadership Failure Inquiry". Trying to blame it on some dodgy software when the real villains are human beings who behaved appallingly makes me angry.
