Beneath the #problematic surface, New York Times’ #Kursk reporting reveals a deeper moral rot
At the end of the day, this is just a very simple question of #moral fiber.
As a flagship Western #media outlet, in a country that has long been the center of the free world – but is now facing a moral crisis of its own – The New York Times has an inherent duty to #document these #historic events with some level of moral grounding.
I'm trying to correct a longtime gap by finally reading Twain's Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn books, and have to admit—I hate them. Yeah, there's real craft here, and some great storytelling, but OMG it's nonstop n****r n****r n****r and I'm sure Twain was trying to be on the right side of things but it's just relentless. Reminds me how we queer folk are supposed to revere The Boys In The Band, which has a similar problem, but with sad gayness.
A note on my avi: I recognize that Meggan as a character has a pretty #problematic backstory (it *was* the 90s after all), but she was the first female character I ever truly resonated with, even if I didn't fully understand why at the time. I always felt I was something of an empathic shapeshifter myself, adjusting my persona to fit the whims of those around me and never quite comfortable in my own skin.
I was particularly fascinated with her quest to discover her true self in the pages of #Excalibur, only to ultimately reject it and instead settle on a form that she's more familiar with. I think it's a story that any trans person can relate to (the fact her "true form" is introduced in dazzling trans colors doesn't hurt). And while I know I can never truly become her (unrealistic body standards aside), I hope to at least aspire to that level of confidence and comfort in my own body someday.
And yes, I still own that card.
The GOP just conflated antisemitism with anti-Zionism. That’s problematic.
There is the complicating factor that dot io is #problematic I spose
She is my problematic fav.

I'm working on a review of a book about Lawrence v. Texas and keep getting the Sodomy song from Meet the Feebles stuck in my head. "Sodomy! You might think it's really odd of me..." #problematic
