Just to be clear, when #Republicans say "#proposal" here, what they mean is that there is a measure buried deep within amendments to funding for the Department of the Interior that threatens #Kennedy #Center with loss of all Federal funding UNLESS they rename to the 'First Lady #Melania #Trump Opera House'.

It's tied to their funding because the GOP know that there is NO FUCKING WAY Kennedy Center would ever agree with this without having a big fucking stick waved over their heads.

It's buried deep in Department of the Interior funding amendments IN HOPES THAT NOBODY ELSE WILL NOTICE THEM WAVING THE STICK.

What a bunch of cowardly, fragile fucking flowers.

Another implicit assumption (flaw) that is often a part of "purely technical solutions" is the neglect or ignorance (innocent naïveté) of existing technical solutions.

A technical proposal should not be praised for what it claims to solve.

A technical proposal must be evaluated by what marginal difference or advantage does it provide over existing technologies.

Any technical proposal that ignores prior technologies is itself doomed to be ignored by the next technical proposal.


In addition to the slide presentations (links to come) in the mini workshop and Zoom verbal discussion which was minuted (link to come), there was a lot of very interesting discussion in the Zoom chat, which was not minuted. Sometimes such quick back & forth can help inspire summarizing of points which one had not previously written down.

Dear #neuromatchstodon - our instance rules havent changed much since we started, and there are a few updates we would like to make. These are rules that come from a few years of moderating and thinking about what we would like to promote and discourage as an instance. There is also a bit of housekeeping to do.

• Grifts: expanding the "No NFTs" rule to cover a broader range of grifts, with specific mention of abuse of academic/scientific power
• Conspiracies: similar clarification as above, with caveat for controversial ideas including good-faith criticism of western science
• Content Warnings: we currently don't have a c/w rule, and want to balance exposure to unwanted content without asking people to self-censor. Clarification given for violent and sexual content.
• Housekeeping: synchronizing instance rules with code of conduct.

As a cooperative instance, we want to reach some consensus on these, and welcome all edits, discussion and input. Consensus inverts the normal majoritarian process by putting the work before the vote - instead of trying to squeak out a 50% majority, we want everyone to have a chance to make proposals meet their needs. We will wait at least a week for input before calling a vote. Each change will be voted on separately. Members can discuss the rules here or in the social-wg channel in our discord, and a reminder that you can make a post "local only" in the web interface or by adding to the end of the post.
