I was probationary at my MRA with 11 years of service. So not eligible for RIF severance. And at the time that I received my DRP paperwork on Feb. 21st, my agency had already fired 28% of all probationaries. I was not willing to take the risk of either an illegal firing or no severance, so DRP it was. The civilian job market is atrocious. I was having no luck. The most important variable for me was honor - working a job that brings a sense of honor and importance. The 2nd biggest variable was hopefully matching my GS 7 step 10 pay. After months of anguish & depression I finally got some light - just a couple hours ago I received a job offer to work at Children's Hospital. I'll be acting in administrative support of the medical team doing same day surgeries on little kids. It's an honor. And the pay is only slightly less than federal. For everyone out there who has experienced the same turmoil these last few months, keep faith & stay resilient

------

https://www.reddit.com/r/fednews/comments/1ks48hh/finally_some_good_personal_news/?utm_source=ifttt

r/fednews is the main subreddit for US Federal government workers.

This robot is NOT affiliated with r/fednews. Ramin HonaryThe number of questions being asked on StackOverflow is dropping rapidly
Like cutting down a forest without growing new trees, the AI corporations seem to be consuming the natural raw material of their money-making machines faster than it can be replenished.

Natural, human-generated information, be they works of art, or conversations about factual things like how to write software, are the source of training data for Large Language Models (LLMs), which is what people are calling “artificial intelligence” nowadays. LLM shops spend untold millions on curating the information they harvest to ensure this data is strictly human-generated and free of other LLM-generated content. If they do not do this, the non-factual “hallucinations” (fictional content) that these LLMs generate may come to dominate the factual human-made training data, making the answers that the LLMs generate increasingly more prone to hallucination.

The Internet is already so full of LLM-generated content that it has become a major problem for these companies. The new LLMs are more and more often trained on fictional LLM-generated content that passes as factual and human-made, which is rapidly making LLMs less and less accurate as time goes on — a viscous downward spiral.

But it gets worse. Thanks to all of the AI hype, everyone is asking questions of LLMs nowadays and not of other humans. So the source of these LLMs training data, web sites like StackOverflow and Reddit, are now no longer recording as many questions from humans to other humans. If that human-made information disappears, so does the source of natural resources that make it possible to build these LLMs.

Even worse still, if there are any new innovations in science or technology, unless humans are asking question to the human innovators, the LLMs can’t learn about these things innovations either. Everyone will be stuck in this churning maelstrom of AI “slop,” asking only questions that have asked by millions of others before, and never receiving any true or accurate answers on new technology. And nobody, neither the humans nor the machines, will be learning anything new at all, while the LLMs become more and more prone to hallucinations with each new generation of AI released to the public.

I think we are finally starting to see the real limitations of this LLM technology come into clear view, the rate at which it is innovating is simply not sustainable. Clearly pouring more and more money and energy into scaling up these LLM project will not lead to increased return-on-investment, and will definitely not lead to the “singularity” in which machine intelligence surpasses human intelligence. So how long before the masses finally realize they have been sold nothing but a bill of goods by these AI corporations?

#tech #AI #Slop #LLM #GenerativeAI #ChatGPT #OpenAI #Google #Gemini #MetaAI #StackOverflow #Reddit #DataPoisoning

It's Shadow Docket time.

🚨🚨🚨Now we are at the big moment in the most important federal firing lawsuit. The Trump admin is going to the Supreme Court, asking them to allow the firings, after two lower courts have effectively told them to get lost — and said the firings and RIFs are likely illegal. And the big threat to Americans now is that the Supreme Court will issue a "shadow docket" ruling to allow the firings without making much of a public fuss. Here's the request from the Trump DOJ. It was filed at the Supreme Court on a Friday — which is one way to limit news coverage. And this is a public relations battle as much as a legal battle. What happened: A coalition of groups including local governments, unions, Protect Democracy and Democracy Forward filed a lawsuit because the president can't use large-scale firings to reorganize agencies without Congress. (This is a no-brainer to any honest judge or lawyer.) The district court judge Susan Illston granted an injunction to stop the firings. Trump DOJ appealed to the Ninth Circuit. That court said "yeah yeah calm down" and set a briefing in a few weeks, effectively saying they don't clearly disagree the firings are illegal. So the Trump DOJ went to the Supreme CourtAs we said a few weeks ago, this case has always been headed to the six rightwing judges at the Supreme Court. What we need to do now:Pay attention to the shadow docket moves!!! And talk about them to everyone you know. The rightwing Supreme Court is going to try to kill the district court injunction by issuing a quiet stay. They will eventually have to decide on the merits, but the rightwing justices use shadow docket stays to allow conservatives to do bad things while the Court drags its feet. That's not right. Our job is to make any Court stay NOT A QUIET THING. If Alito and the Roberts Six kill the District Court order by delaying it for months, they should get public pushback. The Trump DOJ asked for both a stay of Illston's order and an emergency stay. Emergency stays are often granted for a day or two to allow the court to figure out what to do. So that may happen. But the real action is next week:Will the Supreme Court, by issuing a shadow docket stay, in effect overrule the district court and the Ninth Circuit and allow Trump to keep illegally firing people? Let's force the Supreme Court's stay actions out of the shadows. Time to focus on the Court.---More info:On this SCOTUS filing https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/16/donald-trump-reductions-in-force-supreme-court-00355206"I Know What You Did Last Summer: Tales from the Supreme Court’s Shadow Docket" https://afj.org/article/i-know-what-you-did-last-summer-tales-from-the-supreme-courts-shadow-docket/"As University of Texas law professor Stephen Vladeck has emphasized in his writing about the shadow docket, the Court’s conservative majority is abusing this docket in unprecedented ways without even having to sign their names to the rulings. Thus, the Court is issuing major decrees from the shadows."From our blog two weeks ago: "Finally, Trump is sued to stop the illegal DOGE destruction"it seems likely from here that the Supreme Court will find a way to use its shadow docket to in effect overturn the TRO, perhaps by “playing fast and loose with terminology to obscure what it is actually doing,” as even far-right Federalist Society lawyer Josh Blackman said about the SCOTUS order in the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case.

------

https://www.reddit.com/r/fednews/comments/1kouvwt/red_alert_supreme_court_overrule_is_requested_by/?utm_source=ifttt

r/fednews is the main subreddit for US Federal government workers.

This robot is NOT affiliated with r/fednews. Other leaders with decades of service are being dismissed as the administration eliminates full offices or divisions at a time. The first resignation offer, sent in January, saw 75,000 workers across government agree to quit and keep drawing pay through September, the administration has said. But a second round, rolling out agency by agency through the spring, is seeing a sustained, swelling uptick that will dwarf the first, potentially climbing into the hundreds of thousands, the employees and the records show. The Post could not determine the exact number of second-round resignations, which is tightly held within each agency. But the employees and the records suggest that disproportionately older, more senior and experienced employees are heading for the exit — in part because they fear being fired or having their positions reclassified as political, at-will jobs under a new Trump program, federal workers said in interviews. Others are leaving simply because they are tired of the chaos, mismanagement and poor treatment they say they have faced under the new administration.Jeffrey Grant, a senior official at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, left federal service after 42 years in February because he saw the “writing on the wall,” he said in an interview, as he watched the new administration prepare to fire civil servants. Now, he is noticing many talented colleagues follow in his footsteps, he said, including senior CMS staffers who ran core components of the agency’s strategy and operations. CMS administers more than $1 trillion a year in health insurance, covering over 130 million Americans.“We’re losing some really smart people and really senior people,” Grant said. “Those will be the people that can easily get jobs outside the government … they will disappear, and they may never come back. Maybe they’ll come back under a different administration, but it’s a huge loss for the government.”The scores of departures will have immediate consequences, government employees said, slowing or halting work such as the Food and Drug Administration’s issuance of food safety warnings and the Treasury Department’s disbursement of payments. Other effects will be felt over coming months and years, employees predicted, as agencies lose people representing decades of institutional knowledge — imperiling the quality of work done and services provided.FULL GIFT LINK: https://wapo.st/43fc1awAre you someone affected by or with knowledge of the Trump administration's overhaul of the federal government?
