Sora In Hiding by Debra Martz
To find a Sora, look to the freshwater marshes. If you are lucky, one might appear at the edge of the reeds and cordgrass, but most often, they will be within the vegetation.

When I first woke this morning around five, I felt wide awake, now that I'm in my office with coffee, the sleepiness is starting to take over and wrap around me like a warm blanket. I went to bed late last night, at least late for me. For me staying up after 10 is a wild night. What happened was, I waited for Ben to fall asleep, otherwise he follows me into the bedroom and if I object, he gives me some really effective puppy dog eyes that say, but we're besties. He likes to sleep beneath the bed, but his snoring and grooming disturb my wife's sleep. Ben's been with us for over 15 years, and I treat him with deference whenever safe and possible.

The old, bearded man lay asleep in a reclining chair. His longish graying hair was unkempt, one leg crossed the other at his ankles, and his hands lay one atop the other on his chest. It was a very comfortable chair. Suddenly, the chair started to shake, just a little at first, but gradually the shaking became more violent. The old man yelled out in distress: "leave me alone Charlie!"

Charlie, a border collie, relented for a few minutes, but knew it was time for the man get up and let him and his buddy Ben, a terrier, out for their morning business. The man would just have to get up and open the door. He continued this morning routine until the man was awake.
