@vga256 The Cisco 2500 is a mighty box for its time, and for sure it can route faster than a LC475 – if you’re running Mac OS on the Mac and not some BSD.

But in terms of raw CPU performance, the LC’s 68040/25 runs circles around an 68030/25, it is 2-3 times faster due to the large 8 KB L1 cache and optimizations.

@loriemerson @w8emv @mediaarchaeologylab I'd probably have never found the #othernetworks tag on my own (like the elsewhere-mentioned #retronetworking tag), looking forward to falling down that rabbit hole!

I've not yet personally played with #appletalk beyond some scratchy memories as a user from long-enough-ago, but do recall some recent posts where people were playing with it -- and trying to run it over barbed wire or something? Not sure if that's the same group, but it looked fun.

Thanks!

You may now point your terminal (emulator) of choice towards office.c3post.de:4711 and try the first version of the #38c3 Terminal Office (make sure to disable local echo/linefeed conversion stuff).

If you have socat available you can use basically any common terminal emulator with this command: socat stdio,raw,echo=0,echoctl=0 tcp-connect:office.c3post.de:4711

See next posts for telnet/netcat instructions.

I just received an invoice from ITU
(International Telecommunications Union). Their letterhead states a TELETEX number (in 2024!). I love it. #retronetworking - now I seriously wonder how I might be able to get connected to a public network that can reach it.
