Eric Phelps<p>I have a few schematics I use on interviews to see if people can troubleshoot. Twenty years ago, people could. Nobody can now. Nobody teaches electronics for technicians. Engineers, yes. Technicians, no.</p><p>So I'm rewriting the test and changing it into training. Jens Lechtenbörger<p>For several years now, I have been actively maintaining emacs-reveal [1] to produce interactive HTML presentations with audio as open educational resources. These presentations are generated automatically from Org mode text files using GitLab CI pipelines.</p><p>Summer term 2024 was the first time I incorporated text-to-speech functionality into my emacs-reveal workflow, resulting in video-like, yet interactive presentations: see my course on IT Systems [2]. Since the end of the lecturing period I have been updating software and documentation a bit. Feel free to reuse my course material and emacs-reveal; maybe comment on issue #20 [3]?</p><p>[1] <a href="https://gitlab.com/oer/emacs-reveal/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">gitlab.com/oer/emacs-reveal/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br>[2] <a href="https://oer.gitlab.io/oer-courses/it-systems/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">oer.gitlab.io/oer-courses/it-s</span><span class="invisible">ystems/</span></a><br>[3] <a href="https://gitlab.com/oer/emacs-reveal/-/issues/20" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gitlab.com/oer/emacs-reveal/-/</span><span class="invisible">issues/20</span></a></p><p><a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/Emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Emacs</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/EmacsReveal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EmacsReveal</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/Org" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Org</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/OrgMode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OrgMode</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/RevealJS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevealJS</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/TTS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TTS</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/TextToSpeech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TextToSpeech</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/CICD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CICD</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/FLOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FLOSS</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/FreeSoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreeSoftware</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/OER" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OER</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/Education" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Education</span></a></p>

Adrian<p>So why do conference organizers assume that slides come as ppt or pdf and not as HTML? We usually create slides with <a href="https://openbiblio.social/tags/revealjs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>revealjs</span></a>, nowadays mostly by using <a href="https://openbiblio.social/tags/HedgeDoc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HedgeDoc</span></a>. Having to upload these slides somewhere as PDF is exhausting, as HedgeDoc does not provide a PDF export for slides and in the current case I have problems both using decktape and with printing the PDF from the browser (which worked the last time I had to do this). See this ticket for context: <a href="https://github.com/hbz/slides/issues/59" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/hbz/slides/issues/5</span><span class="invisible">9</span></a></p>
