click.actionnetwork.orgSign to tell Congress, federal courts, and the U.S. Marshals Service: Take urgent action now to defend our due process rights and stop Trump’s fascist repression! Still illegally detaining Mahmoud Khalil, the Trump administration has continued to detain and deport more immigrants, including students and workers here with green cards and valid visas. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he’s monitoring student visa holders’ social media posts and aiming to deport people who criticize the U.S. government. Many of these actions violate federal judges’ orders, and all of them violate our constitutional rights to free speech and due process, which apply to everyone in the United States regardless of immigration status. By defying federal courts and even threatening to impeach federal judges who’ve blocked his unconstitutional actions, Trump and his administration have brought us to an unprecedented constitutional crisis. As laid out in the Constitution, the federal judiciary branch of government is obligated to provide a check on unconstitutional actions from the legislative branch (Congress) and the executive branch (the president). But leaders in Trump’s administration, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, have vowed to continue defying court orders—such as the order blocking deportations to notoriously dangerous prisons in El Salvador. Bondi has even claimed that judges don’t have the right to block Trump’s actions, which is an outrageous lie. Trump and his administration are not only violating human and constitutional rights, they’re also undermining one of the most fundamental principles of our democracy: the system of checks and balances between branches of government. This is a threat to all of us. The U.S. Marshals Service specifically has the power to enforce federal court orders, but it’s overseen by Trump’s Department of Justice as well as federal courts. Despite their connection to the Trump administration, we need U.S. Marshals—as well as the judiciary and legislative branches of government—to act immediately as checks to Trump’s power. Sign to demand the U.S. Marshals Service, Congress, and federal courts act as necessary checks to Trump’s fascist repression. These institutions must urgently defend our constitutional rights, including the right to due process.

American law has long rested on the foundational principle that everyone has the right to a lawyer and that lawyers are free to choose whom they represent. Are the Trump executive orders endangering this principle? #Trump #constitution #rights #law

The Christian Science Monitor · Trump targets Big Law. Why that matters to the rest of us.By Henry Gass

WI's high turnout suggests that voters can grasp that courts/ #RuleOfLaw matters. It turns out families talk about more than the price of groceries. Dems shouldn’t shy away from raising issues of justice & fairness & indiv #rights.

One of the leading issues -was in the st SC contest 2 yrs ago, was #ReproductiveRights. Dems in WI hammered away at the theme that the R-backed cand -would ban abortion +ARG their SC could affect citizens’ access to HC.

Another preventable tragedy, on rights, disrupted lives, & on economic & societal terms:

">1.1M foreign students come to the US each year to study
--> they contributed >$43B to the US economy in foreign currency balances
--> students who came to the U.S. to study founded 55% of America’s 582 start-up companies worth at least $1B."

The New Republic · Trump’s Atrocious War on Higher Ed Demands an Aggressive ResponseAmerica’s colleges and universities enrich everyone in ways that aren’t often acknowledged. It’s high time to remind Americans of them.

Trump’s admin: dismantles #disability #rights & ED. There's a burgeoning mvt agst #accessibility from conservatives with lg platforms. Manufacturing cultural outrage to justify policy that'd have previously been considered too cruel/damaging is a staple of the far-R playbook.

SM followers take their marching orders, hurling discontent at: targets & regurgitating TPs. Eventually -ideas: so ubiquitous -adopted by pols *use them to engage their base -becomes policy-.

The #legal #rights people have if #ICE stops them

A sense of anxiety is gripping noncitizen residents of the #UnitedStates.

The 2nd #Trump admin kicked off w/a shock-&-awe effort aimed at arresting & deporting many immigrants without legal status. But stories are now emerging of both longtime legal permanent residents & visa holders being detained by ICE & other #immigration *officers*.

We must sacrifice freedom for safety. Musk-Trump is invoking #nationalsecurity *reason: need not share the facts re deportation actions with judges +why it can deport anyone at any time w/o #dueprocess -indeed any justification. We must trade rights for security. If we buy this ARG, WE LOSE BOTH. If anyone can be deported at any time for no reason➡️less free/secure.

They were risking natsec. Worth it to them: bc #Signal allows them to🚨deny the #rights of Americans.

"Everyone on that group chat, including the Vice-President, the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Advisor, and the Secretary of State, knew that what they were doing was against the rules, the guidance, and the law. But they were doing what they were doing, I would suggest, for a reason: precisely because it allowed them or their colleagues to compromise the rights of Americans."

"Using Signal enables American authorities to violate the rights of Americans. Signal is attractive not because it is secure with respect to foreign adversaries, which it is not, but because it is secure with respect to American citizens and American judges. The autodelete function, which Mike Waltz was using, violates the law."

"Note that there was no legal requirement to detain her. ICE could have just as easily served her with a Notice to Appear in IMG court in person or by mail. There's zero reason that they needed to have a half-dozen federal law enforcement agents grab her off the street."

"The admn’s attempts to characterize this as a routine “deportation” matter represent perhaps their most cynical wordplay yet (& one the #media should stop repeating...) #Deportation is a legal process w/ established due process #rights. What happened here was something far darker: the #US govt engaging in what amounts to #HumanTrafficking, shipping people to #ElSalvador as forced #labor without any due process."
