Finally some more rope in natural colors. With summer coming in, I wanted to get ready for some more boho themed ties. This batch is POSH but I'll be getting some hemp and jute when it's in the budget.

If anyone has any requests for ties in my next set of #Rope pictures let me know! If you haven't seen my self ties with little stories sometimes, you can find them most easily on my profiles Media tab.

#rope : a row or string consisting of a number of things united, as by braiding, twining, etc.

After a week of freezing temperatures, the ice in the basin is 4 centimeters (1½ inches) thick.

I was able to crack it by stomping on it hard, a few times. Then I lifted a huge plank of the broken ice and smashed it against the dock to free one of my ropes that had frozen in.

No particular reason, just … I hadn't realised that the end of a rope had blown off my roof and had been dangling in the water. It belongs on my roof.

Oh, I hadn't realised the weather was this bad. The news:

"UK travellers urged to allow more time for journeys amid ‘perfect storm’ of festive season and bad weather.
"Some flights and ferries were cancelled on Saturday amid a 'perfect storm' of the Christmas getaway and bad weather."

Inevitably, tomorrow there'll be train tracks and canals blocked because of downed trees. (They're often side by side.)

Tomorrow, I'll check the ropes.

I definitely WISH I were as good at docking as this.

I do follow some of the principles this video illustrates:
• ropes & equipment ready.
• align the boat well.
• just enough speed.

I also know to wear:
• appropriate footwear.
• nettle-ready trousers (not shorts).

But, especially on windy days, it's seldom perfect, like this:

Someone just came along and quietly unhooked both mooring hooks, and then pushed my boat out.

Fortunately, I was on board. Once I realised, I was able to throw a rope to a passing dog walker and pull the boat in.

An hour ago I was out shopping. If this had happened then, I'd have had no way to retrieve the boat.

I suppose this is why some people use chains to tie up. Chains aren't quiet.

In busy locations, there are often rings to tie boat ropes to. Rings are easy, and both rope ends are tied to your boat

Sometimes rings are hidden in the grass and a nice surprise to find. Usually they're on the hard bank (photo). Sometimes they're rusted away, and you have to shift the boat forward or back to find 2 rings that are spaced right.

It takes 2 rings, 1 at the bow and 1 at the stern.
