So we've all heard about the Calexit movement...they're collecting signatures to authorize a ballot initiative for California to secede from the US.

I've since learned that other secession movements are gathering steam. The Cascadia movement wants Washington and Oregon to join with CA and form a new nation. A New York/New Jersey movement is brewing, and there's a campaign for a Republic of New England, to incorporate MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, and RI.

Interestingly, the Texas secessionists, who raise their heads every so often, seem to be quiet. And there's likely others that I am unaware of.

A Balkanization of the US is scary, to be sure, but at the same time, many have predicted it for a while. A common thread is taxation...not that taxes are too high, but that these states, which are among those that pay the highest in taxes, get little in return, and some are angry over what they feel is subsidizing the rest of the country.

Is it coming? I'm not sure, but if the country continues to destabilize, it may be inevitable.

Horror story reviews, by someone who doesn’t like horror

I’m not a big fan of horror movies or TV shows, because I’m not a big fan of jump scares. I’m generally way more into fantasy, sci-fi and dystopian fiction than any other genre – except perhaps some of Anne Rice’s works/adaptations. “The New River is an artificial waterway in England, opened in 1613 to supply London with fresh drinking water taken from Chadwell and Amwell Springs near Ware in Hertfordshire, and later the River Lea and other sources.”

The New River is still in use today, transferring around 220 million litres of water per day — 8% of London's total use. I went for a walk along a section of it. This is an Eurasian Coot.

Coots are medium-sized water birds that are members of the rail family, Rallidae. They constitute the genus Fulica, the name being the Latin term for "coot". Coots have predominantly black plumage, and—unlike many rails—they are usually easy to see, often swimming in open water. Coots have prominent frontal shields or other decoration on the forehead, with red to dark red eyes and coloured bills. Many have white on the under tail. The featherless shield gave rise to the expression "as bald as a coot", which the Oxford English Dictionary cites in use as early as 1430.
Like other rails, they have long, lobed toes that are well adapted to soft, uneven surfaces. Coots have strong legs and can walk and run vigorously. They tend to have short, rounded wings and are weak fliers, though northern species nevertheless can cover long distances. They typically congregate in large rafts in open water. They are socially gregarious and messy aquatic feeders. Their feet are rather frightening to look in my opinion but that is a very subjective view.

I think I saved Maizy’s life this morning.

She very nearly repeated the choking incident Bailey had as a kitten. But I saw it. I recognized it. I prevented it.

The amount of ribbon I pulled from her throat was alarming as fuck, but somehow I got to her before she swallowed it too far. She’s okay.

Me? I’m a fucking wreck. Can’t stop reliving what happened to Bailey all those years ago, and now Maizy? The fuck is with kittens, why they gotta swallow every damn thing…?!

Scare the life outta me why don’t you. Fuck!

Let me preface this by saying you guys know exactly how I feel by now about the current political climate and what's going on with big social media sites. I've ranted on here about Meta. A lot.

In light of everything that's going on and how utterly upset I've been, I deleted the podcast's Instagram (and my other ones as well). Basically, f*ck it. I'm done. I'm just so completely done. It suddenly occurred to me that I don't need to live like this. I don't need be riddled with anxiety. I don't.

I've hated Meta for a long time but I was terrified of what would happen if I didn't promote on there. I suddenly don't care anymore. I made up my mind this morning. My first point, my friends are here, and secondly, my 8-15k listeners are going to listen no matter where I might be posting things to accompany episodes. Besides, I have a blog for my show. So, screw it. I don't care. I refuse to be on there anymore.

This is just a heads up for the future of #PANDASDEN. I mostly post about episodes on here, anyway. All that I'm going to have moving forward will be post on here and on my blog as well. I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm happier now that I've made up my mind.

Different Than

Someone in my FB feed has bird flu, along with her daughter. They have no idea where they contracted it. They had the vaccine but they still got it.

We are so fucked. We refuse to do any kind of contact tracing and one-third of our nation (U!S!A! U!S!A!) shrieks like a toddler with full-body rash and automatic weapons if you mention masking, quarantine, or even social distancing. State and local governments have given up on even collecting data to track the pandemic and many of them seem scared (see toddlers, above) of even acknowledging any risk to the population.

This will not be good.
