Toxic waste cleanups take longer in marginalized Bay Area communities--and even simple remediations lag at sites in socially vulnerable areas.

Affluent communities can exert pressure on regulators to act, as our scientist Ian Wren said. Resource-strapped agencies will not manage a site proactively unless a community forces them to do so.

"It's really a case of, the squeaky wheel gets the cleanup,” he said.

1) Zooming around the #sfbayarea going to #art events with my spouse. Art community here was decimated by the tech booms & then the pandemic. (How many art spaces got priced out & replaced by startups? And the artists priced out of apts?) But rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated.
2) Kiddo is making drawings to order for friends. Printing on a little sticker printer. She’s good at this!
3) Most grades for my portion of the quarter’s assignments are loaded!

So it looks like bottlenose dolphins started migrating to Northern California in the last decade. Have not seen any yet, but this guy posts his sightings throughout the day! We’ll kinda stalk him as he stalks them.

I’m “loved dolphins since Flipper” years old, and I still love them.

Had a beautiful hike with Max today at Fernandez Ranch in Martinez. It was maybe a little bit *too* exciting, with a number of close encounters with calves and mama cows, as well as a sighting of a large and surprisingly bold coyote.

hi NorCal #wildlife folk. found a pile of scat at the back of the house on the deer path that cuts through between houses. We live in Larkspur of the edge of the trails. worried it might be a #mountainlion

Another beautiful hike at Sobrante Ridge Regional Preserve! This time I brought my husband (OG hiking buddy) along with our sweet pupper Max. We got to see the Alameda (or Pallid) Manzanita in bloom!
