Glider landing gear doors, unlike those in many powered planes...do not have a separate open/close mechanism.

Instead, they are pushed open by the extending landing gear, and are held closed by springs.

But landing gear often has bumps and projections that will catch on gear doors, especially when closing.

I had to install some rub blocks/strips on the landing gear, and add, and then shape, low density filler on the edges of the gear doors. A bunch of time was spent underneath the gear, looking for all these catch points and then devising a solution.

Note that the tow hook release mechanism is attached to the landing gear. When gear is extended...the tow hook is available for use. Retracted gear hides the tow hook inside the fuselage. This means I can't retract the landing gear during tow...even during a long cross-country tow.

Early spring.

The new green grass hasn't shown up yet, so things are still kind of brown. But the snow is melting! Underneath its disappearing cover, the landscape peeks through, seeking the sun and warmth.

And you know, though it is still cold and brisk and breezy and wintry, that the new season of life is arriving.

Springtime in the Orchard

Springtime in the Orchard is an image that I captured a few years ago as I was driving around with my camera after a brief clearing in some of the late spring storms rolled through the area.
The blessing of spring comes with beautiful weather and the greening of the golden brown grasses. Longer days and fewer storms and the anticipation of summer around the corner.
