Interesting to see that the editors of the Journal of Intangible Cultural Heritage Studies think of me as an expert of "The Doctoral Sword and the Living History in Finland" ;-)

The detail of the horse heads, the singularity of the pommel, the filigrees, the Nordic-inspired blade.... It's one of those designs that always haunts my mind, and, despite it being a challenge, I felt it was a natural next step in my leather carving and moulding skills. It's been six months of slow progress in my free time, but I couldn't be happier with the result
"The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep one last time. Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn. Forth Èorlingas!"
As emblematic as Narsil or Sting, and just as tied to its bearer, is Herugrim, the sword of the king of Rohan Théoden. And, for me, one of the most beautiful works of forge and blacksmithing ever designed
The famous 'Swiss sabre' in the Wallace Collection, London (object A489). Longswords fell out of use because longsword fencing was hard to analyze with the theory of the day, but until then there were experiments with giving them complex hilts like fashionable single-handed swords. https://wallacelive.wallacecollection.org:443/eMP/eMuseumPlus?service=ExternalInterface&module=collection&objectId=60982&viewType=detailView #sword #archaeology
I commissioned this absolute beauty two and a half years ago.
Over the past month the conversation has gone from "should I abandon hope of ever getting anything for that down payment" to "what color do I want the leather handle wrapping" and I couldn't be happier.

An intentionally destroyed #BronzeAge #sword found in a burial at Blaubeuren-Asch. Bronze Age weapons deposited in burials were often bent or hacked into pieces before placed into the grave, in this way they 'died' with the owner. Dating 9th century BC.

“Henry Cunningham, Esq. of Boquhan, was a gentleman of Stirlingshire, who, like many exquisites of our own time, united a natural high spirit and daring character with an affectation of delicacy of address and manners amounting to foppery…”

“Neither asked nor given…”
Written by Alan Sharp, & directed by Michael Caton-Jones, ROB ROY (1995) is an underappreciated gem of Scottish film. It also contains what is widely regarded as one of the best swordfights in cinema history
