I started out here mostly posting sunsets.
This year my skyline is letting me down. Colorful sunsets are few and far between.
Sunrises are foggy and gray.
This sunset is from exactly one year ago.
It is nice to reflect back to a time of better sunsets knowing that they will reappear when the time is right.
Summer wants to know if it will be tomorrow. I said I don't think so but we will keep watch and will be so ready to appreciate their return.

I'm so looking forward to the annual crabapple bloom at The Arb. And the magnolias, redbuds, rhododendrons, daylilies, tulips, etc. Here are some flower photos I took there during early May 2021. The first shot with the bumblebee was with my Fuji xf80mmf2.8 macro, the second is the xf35mmf2, and the others with the xf23mmf1.4. All of my favorite prime lenses of all time.

A bumblebee flies to collect pollen from white crabapple blossoms. Even at 1/800th of a second shutter speed, only one wing is clearly visible, due to the angle and slightly different position in the cycle. They are busy bees for sure at this time of year. Isn't it cute?
With the F2 lens wide open the pink crabapple blossoms are mostly out of focus, but it creates an impressionistic feel that I really like. The hints of the blue sky complement the vivid pink and balance things out nicely.
It was a really bright and sunny day, so to shoot with the lens open to f2, with the pink crabapple flowers backlit like this I had to set it to 1/8500s at f160. It was also a very windy day, so that balanced things out and froze any motion.
A white magnolia blossom that is growing from a very tiny nub right next to the v of the trunk. It was something that I hadn't seen before, and it made for a very easy shot, with an interesting composition. The light was so beautiful that evening. This is at F1.8 for a shallow depth of field, to blur out the background. Not open all the way to f1.4, so it made more of the flower and back texture sharp.

🤦‍♂️ first lesson on the new phone ... when I turned the watermark on, I thought it would be the same as my previous... ha! After this snap, had to go in and reset the watermark as my handle + date/time stamp 😂

This was Brendan Gleeson's character Colm's house in the movie The Banshees of Inisherin. It's just a prop, not a real house. Not even sure if it's still there (shot this in 2023). It was located on Keem Beach on Achill Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland. I had to frame this shot carefully so that it didn't show the tent a camper had popped up on the other side of the structure.

Die junge Kollegin hält es für gefährlich, dass ich kein Telefon mit auf die Hunderunden nehme.
Hallo?! Wir haben in unserer analogen Kindheit von morgens bis abends ohne in den Wäldern gespielt, sind in alte Bunker und auf Bäume geklettert, haben Sauerampfer und Klee vom Waldboden genascht.
Aus heutiger Sicht völlig unbegreiflich, wie ich überhaupt das Erwachsenenalter erreichen konnte.

Hope Peak from the infamous Three Sisters mountain range in Canmore Alberta. Heavy cloud frames the entire frame creating a frame in the bottom and sides of the peak. A small circular cloud cluster sits above the peak and the background is obscured as well isolating the peak. I wanted to capture all three peaks at sunrise, but, the heavy cloud completely obscured the other peaks, giving me only partial glances at each. As a result, Hope Peak sits alone lit by the early morning light, the only peak to fully show itself.
