Day 1 at O'odham Ñiokĭ Ki: was delightful - I do also have photos from the workshop but here's the Tohono O'odham Community College campus in Sells, AZ, and a little doggo who hung out with me for a bit.

Community Action of Ventura County is, along with MANDO Youth Connect, the newest social services agency under the roof of Community Conscience. Today CA-VC executive director Susy Lopez-Garcia briefed Thousand Oaks residents on the agency’s services, including food programs, weatherization, utility assistance, and more. Welcome CA-VC, and thanks for doing this essential work! Learn more at ca-vc.org.

Today marks a proud and hopeful milestone for the City of Thousand Oaks with the opening of the Thrive Grove Navigation Center, which uses tiny homes to provide temporary housing and wraparound services for unhoused residents.

The people of Thousand Oaks asked us to address homelessness, and today we made good on that request. Thrive Grove represents our commitment to compassion, to dignity, to the belief that everyone deserves a path forward.

Today I signed five more letters stating the city's position on state bills that would affect Thousand Oaks residents and businesses.

Positions are based on the city's best interests, not on personal beliefs. For example, while I have concerns as a civil libertarian about ALPR data retention and potential abuse, I also recognize that police investigations often take longer than 30 days. Given that the well-being of all residents is Job 1 for all public servants, public safety benefits come first.

Another great Arbor Earth Day celebration is in the books, and I think this was the best yet. Attendees not only got free compost (thanks, @athensservices) and saw some cool EVs, but also got to check out dozens of other booths with great ideas about sustainability, recycling, and resilience.

The event may be over, but it’s not too late to offer input on the city’s revision of its Active Transportation Plan at toaksatp.org.

Thanks to all who put this together, and all who attended!

Today I signed letters expressing the city's support for six state bills involving wildfire preparedness, emergency relief, short-term rentals, and alcohol and drug treatment centers. Working with our partners at @calcities, which lobbies on behalf of all of the state’s 400+ cities, we hope to see all six proposals enacted into law. There are more bills coming – will keep you posted on these.

In Burbank today for League of California Cities’ spring policy meetings and legislative updates. Cal Cities represents most of the state’s 482 cities and is essential in helping shape legislation to better serve Thousand Oaks.

I serve on Cal Cities’ Environmental Quality (EQ) committee, where we voted to take positions on five proposed bills. These are recommendations to the league’s policy committee, where I also serve, and where we will vote on final positions later this year. (1/4)

Wildwood residents may have noticed a wastewater spill over the weekend near the end of Flaming Star Avenue, with the flow going down the canyon and into the creek.  Public Works staff determined the cause was a blockage, not a pipe break, but unfortunately were not immediately able to clear the blockage. Instead crews quickly established a bypass line, effectively stopping the spill. (1/2)
