Put my current projects on hold for this. Someone in a nearby village has cleared away some black alder for a building project and was desperate to sell it. Maybe got aggro from whoever he shares this forest road with. Or because he missed firewood selling season and the summer guests want it split and dried, not like this.
Anyways, very good price, it's about 30 stere he had but given the fact that we have to load it and haul it ourselves we only took half. Probably still about 10 roundtrips total.
Two got hauled this evening. Brought the saw so I could fill the trailer better.
Chopped a few already. Splits like a dream this fresh stuff!
So this week I'll be hauling and then processing this, and maybe build another firewood store

How much total drag does my truck create while moving down the highway?
Measure it indirectly!
Run cellphone GPS logger at 1-second interval. Get truck up to speed on flat section of highway, put transmission in neutral, foot off the gas. Let the truck slow down 30 - 45 seconds to get a decent number of data points. Make another data run on same section, but opposite direction to average out effects of wind and any slope.
Import GPS log into spreadsheet.
A linear fit gives you a straight line slope...good enough to determine deceleration...then apply that to F = m * a (you need to know truck's weight) Now you know total drag force at one speed.
Total drag is air resistance (varies with square of speed) plus rolling friction (assume it's constant). OK, do a quadratic/polynomial fit. Now you know rolling friction. Subtract from total drag, and you can determine area-drag (Cd * frontal area) of your truck.

Several boards on my utility trailer need to be replaced. I've been keeping an eye on them for a few months, and the other day, I noticed that one had deteriorated to the point where it now has a hole. The boards are secured at both ends with top and bottom enclosures, making their removal and replacement a bit of a challenge. To replace a board, you use what's known as the "teeter-totter" method. This involves sliding one end of the board into position, placing a block underneath to bend the board enough for the other end to clear the metal lip of the trailer, and then removing the block to let the board settle into place. It reminds me of my old saying: "nothing is ever easy."
