Today's historic photo of the day: 38 years ago today, a converted Harris #train sits at the terminus at St Kilda, Vic, July 26 1987.
When this photo was taken, the St Kilda line had been operating for 130 years, however, it was just five days from closure. After the last train ran on July 31, most of the line was converted to a standard gauge light railway.
Note the track machine stabled in a siding in readiness for the gauge conversion and tracklaying work associated with that conversion.
