S. John Ross
I talked a little about Applesauce on the podcast thingy today because, realistically, "a little" is the only possible amount, with Applesauce.

But it does occur to me now that it would have been both clever and accurate to say that it's basically a diceless RPG where you can roll a shit-ton of dice.

Ah well. Laurie 🏳️‍⚧️ (he/him)
Ideas for a co-op storytelling game that can be played at a bar?

Hi folks. I'm organising a very chill hen do and I was supposed to have some friends do musical improv. That fell through, no function room, so I now have to find something that could work with us all sat around a table. The bride loves improv/d&d, so something with storytelling would be ideal. Can anyone suggest a print-and-play game that might work? S. John Ross
As I like to remind folks, while I try to preserve the memory of high-trust trad (and, maybe someday, inspire a few others to pick up the torch and explore all-new designs with it) I am, historically, more of a medium-trust trad designer, and remain so in a lot of ways. This means I happily use low-trust elements, but I try to do so with care, and pay attention to their effects. I'll give an example of what I will and won't do. S. John Ross
For a long time I'd run occasional litle RPG writing workshops at cons, emphasizing (a) the differences between writing and design and (b) just _how much stuff_ your writing can be communicating.

I did a couple of stabs at running them via the blog. One such: https://rolltop-indigo.blogspot.com/2018/05/workshop-001-haunted-attic.html

If you ever want a quick exercise, give that one a try. Symbolic City
Tarnation is designed to be played with adventure modules that fit nicely on a trifold pamphlet. The book includes one ("Aflicker in the Borderlands") that doubles as a replayable travelogue for transitioning between adventures. I'll be publishing two more adventures alongside the core book, and have plans for more if the game draws interest. The game is CC-BY-SA, and I'm finishing up a guide that I hope will help other designers craft their own adventures.
#tarnation #soloRPG #ttrpgDesign
