The more awful everything is, the more I appreciate a nice log. #Log inspired by @CiaraNi@mastodon.green :)
Happy #Doorsday everyone! 🚪
Here is #Germany's most famous #door (the website even claims it may be the most famous door in the world, ha!): The "Theses #Doors" of the All Saints' #Church in #Wittenberg. It is said that Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on this door. These theses launched the #Protestant #Reformation in 1517, resulting in the birth of #Protestantism.

Of course this is not the original door from back then. It burned down in 1760 in the Seven Years' War, together with most of the church, and was replaced. These #bronze doors were installed on Luther's 375th birthday in 1858, with his theses inscribed in Latin. Today, the doors are only used for special occasions. And for photos of course. Lots and lots of photos ... 😋

EN: Of course, a photo series about Aachen can hardly do without the most classic of all Aachen motifs: Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city's landmark. Here it is worth waiting for nightfall, when the many lights and lanterns lend the whole scene its special magic.

#Doorsday's child has far to go ... all the way to #Córdoba in fact.

This is a lovely old #door from the Mosque-Cathedral or #Mezquita with details of #MoorishArchitecture. In fact, it's one of the oldest surviving gates of the former mosque! The door's decoration dates back to 855 when it was known as Bab al-Wuzara ("Viziers' Gate"). Lots of Al-Andalus state officials used to enter the mosque here. The Great Mosque of Córdoba was converted into a Catholic #cathedral in the 13th century. It's a World Heritage Site since 1984.

Derbent: What Persia Left Behind
Directed by Pejman Akbarzadeh

Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 6th-century Derbent / Darband fortification complex is considered the largest defensive structure of Persia's Sasanian dynasty in the Caucasus. It is now located in the Republic of Dagestan, the southernmost tip of Russia. ( www.DerbentOnline.com )
