Ah! As it is pointed out in Hedges' video, in discussion of Amy Kaplan's book about the US's and Israel's shared history:

There is no passage in the bible that mentions America, so no section can be used to infer the US are god's chosen people. So Christian Zionists use their support for Israel to claim to be part of the chosen people narrative.
